Note that the 60FPS cap remains and this currently causes input lag and visual slowdowns when refresh rate thresholds aren't met due to the game tying certain aspects of gameplay to the frame rate,<ref>[http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=149223&p=2096444#post2096444 Square Enix forums - Frame rate pacer pros/cons]</ref> and Steam removes the modification when verifying or updating the main executable. |
Other side effects of removing the frame rate pacer include removing the 30FPS lock on out-of-engine cutscenes causing their animation to run at up to twice the intended speed and improving loading times on loading screens that utilize and trigger the in-game frame rate pacer. This also may cause the in-game visuals to freeze on start up in windowed mode. | Other side effects of removing the frame rate pacer include removing the 30FPS lock on out-of-engine cutscenes causing their animation to run at up to twice the intended speed and improving loading times on loading screens that utilize and trigger the in-game frame rate pacer. Essential improvements
DLC Restoration and Unlocker Patch
- This restores and unlocks all DLC normally unavailable in-game due to copyright and licensing issues.[2] Only works for NA and AS versions.
Follow the instructions in Readme.txt to install. Note that as this is a patch, it will be removed when Steam verifies or updates the modified files.
DLC Unlocker
- Alternative to the above that doesn't require patching the game, but only works for equipment and accessory DLC as an update replaced the unavailable outfit DLC with generic models.
Run the program, ensure DLC enabler is checked, and run the game. Accessories and weapons must be bought from Chocolina with the enabler on, and will remain in the inventory even when the DLC enabler isn't on (but invisible and unable to be equipped without the enabler on).

Video settings
- Shadows are inferior to the console versions, appearing pixelated and jagged. Adjusting shadow resolution in the launcher helps alleviate this.[3]
Input settings
- Only supports DirectInput despite recommending an XInput controller (will not use the XInput driver of a controller). Controller mapping is locked to be the same as XInput controllers. Lacks controller vibration support entirely (found in the console versions).

Issues unresolved
Inconsistent frame rate
- The section on this issue for Final Fantasy XIII applies to this game as well, workarounds included. The game complicates this issue further with depth of field and additional post-processing effect rendering issues.
Instructions |
---|
Broken surround sound & buzzing sound
- This issue occurs when not in stereo (2 channels) or 6 channel mode due to the game incorrectly filling audio buffers, causing buzzing audio and incorrect voice positioning.[4][5]
Instructions |
---|
Rain appears as white lines
- The translucency of rain is lower and looks like white lines, much worse than the console versions.
