Key points
- Based on the International editions of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, which added additional content to both games.
- Players can only skip some FMV cutscenes in Final Fantasy X, no way to skip in-game cutscenes and certain FMVs. In-game cutscenes and FMVs can be skipped in Final Fantasy X-2 and Last Mission.
- Compared to the PS2, some artistic changes are implemented to the characters. For example, Tidus and Yuna have reshaped faces (which some players feel reduces their facial emotional expressions), Yuna's hair is sometimes darker, Wakka has a more muscular back, etc. While some changes are harmless, some players may dislike some of these aspects. Some texture mods have been made to alleviate this, although the underlying polygonal structures can't be edited.
- New to the PC version are various boosters to control the rate of enemy encounters and speed up battles, among others (see below).
- This release adds an auto-save mode; all three games are now saved in a separate slot when entering another area (X, X-2) or ascending one floor (Last Mission).
- Frame rate is capped at 30 FPS. No way to change without breaking the entire engine.

Availability
- All versions require Steam DRM and a constant internet connection for all game modes.[1]
Essential improvements
- Note: FFX/X-2 HD received a surprise bugfix patch (v1.0.1) in March 2019, which caused some of UPX's features to no longer work properly. Those interested in reverting the game to v1.0.0 can follow the instructions here.
- An easy-to-install, auto-updating mod that adds several long-requested features, technical fixes, and general enhancements:
- Adds in a togglable 8x speed, which can skip through cutscenes in Final Fantasy X
- New optional FFX boosters: Distribute AP to all characters after battle, and have permanent Sensor regardless of equipment
- Texture dumping and injection for modding
- Many texture mods are available on NexusMods, although an account must be made to download files larger than 2 MB.
- Button prompts for PlayStation/Xbox 360/Xbox One controllers, button remapping support, mappings for booster commands, and a soft-reset function
- Option to unlock Seymour as a playable character in battle (you can't develop his stats at all, so this is mostly a novelty)
- Enhanced achievements: plays the PSN or XBL unlock sound (customizable) on achievement unlock, and displays rarity statistics
- Additional audio options, such as Japanese audio support for non-Japanese text (and vice versa), as well as the option to mute on focus lost
- True fullscreen mode and fixes for DPI scaling
- Intel GPU bypass and other performance fixes
- If severe stutter is experienced, turn the Reduce stutter option off by changing
Reduce=true
to Reduce=false
in the main configuration file.
- To disable the on-screen display (yellow text in top-left corner), press Ctrl+⇧ Shift+O.
- A gamepad- and UnX-friendly launcher replacement

Issues fixed
Unable to play while offline
- The update released in March, 2019, introduced a Steam API bug that prevents the game from working while in offline mode of Steam.
- Use one of the below alternative ways of working around the issue.
Downgrade the installed version of the game[2][3]
|
- Improves compatibility with "Untitled" Project X.
- The download size is around 800 MB since the command used only downloads the files that have changed between the two game versions.
- Open the Steam Console by executing
steam://nav/console in e.g. the browser/explorer address bar, ⊞ Win+R, etc.
- Type
download_depot 359870 359871 5168047039601173807 553332685512943283 and press ↵ Enter to execute the command.
- If executed properly the console will say:
Downloading depot 359871 ...
- Wait for the download to complete. Do not close Steam or shut down the computer as this will terminate the download!
- When the download is finished the following line will be printed in the console:
Depot download complete : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_359870\depot_359871" (1430 files, manifest 5168047039601173807)
- Open indicated download folder and move or copy the contents to <path-to-game>, overwriting existing files.
- Otherwise the downloaded files will remain incomplete and be missing all files that were identical between the two versions.
- The game should now work while in offline mode.
|
Use Special K to spoof online connectivity[5]
|
- This copy of Special K might have adverse effects when combined with "Untitled" Project X.
- The steps can be performed even if you're already offline, as long as the Special K archive have already been downloaded.
- Download the archive for the latest version of the Special K mod/framework.
- Open File Explorer and navigate to <path-to-game>.
- Open the downloaded archive and extract
SpecialK32.dll to the installation folder.
- Rename
SpecialK32.dll to dxgi.dll , as otherwise it will not be able to hook the game
- Run and close the game once to allow Special K to create its base config file.
- Open the newly created
dxgi.ini file using Notepad.
- Set the parameter
SpoofBLoggedOn to true.
- Save and close the file.
- The game should now work while in offline mode.
Notes
- Restart Steam properly before accessing online mode again, as spoofing the online status can put the Steam client in a pseudo-offline/online mode where it is technically running in offline mode, but is still able to access certain online features (friends list, community, etc.) if an online connection is available.
