Huge FPS drops on modern systems

Using dgVoodoo 2 wrapper
  1. Download dgVoodoo wrapper from here.
  2. Unpack the wrapper on your computer.
  3. Copy contents of the MS folder in dgVoodoo folder to the root folder of Colin McRae Rally 2.0.
  4. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe.
  5. Click Add in General tab and select the game folder.
  6. Go to DirectX tab and make sure 'Disable and passthru to real DirectX' is left unchecked and 'Output API' is 'Best available one'.
  7. For 'Videocard' select GeForce4 Ti 4800 with 'VRAM' of 256 MB
  8. For 'Texturing>Filtering' select Force anisotropic 16x
  9. Uncheck 'dgVoodoo Watermark'
  10. Click Apply, then OK, and lastly exit the program.
  11. Run the game from it's 'CMR2.exe' executable and change the settings in-game.
  12. Resolutions greater than 1920*1080 should now be available and forcing Vsync or Max framerate in graphics driver software should also work.
  13. Avoid forcing MSAA through dgVoodoo and have the graphics card driver software force FXAA instead.
Setting the Environment Map setting from Cubic to Bump or Standard should give the biggest speedup
Lowering in-game Draw Distance also seems to lower the impact on performance
These issues might be resolved by enabling "Always Use 3d Clock" or equivalent in your vendor's GPU overclock utility.[citation needed]
DDrawCompat may help in preventing the FPS drops.
