The game supports the Xbox 360 controller and the Logitech gamepad. Controllers need to be turned on and activated before the game starts in order to be recognised by the game.

[edit] Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2

Fix dinput8-x360cev21.zip[1]Link

Go to www.tocaedit.com and click Downloads. Then go to: Utilities - Other > XBOX360 Controller Emulator > dinput8-x360cev21.zip

Click on File > Download to save the zip. Then extract dinput8.dll from the blocker folder in the zip. Place dinput8.dll in the same folder as your Walking Dead executable.

Create a profile for the Walking Dead executable with the Logitech Profiler to emulate the game's keyboard and mouse controls.

[edit] Controller support on Mac

Telltale has stated that controllers are not officially supported on the Mac[2].

[edit] Issues And Fixes

"WalkingDead101.exe has stopped working" Error

Fix Standard Steam troubleshootingLink

Standard Steam troubleshooting is required. Verify the integrity of the game cache, and run Steam and the game as an administrator.

If it's still not working, right-click the game's executable, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and then check the options to run in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME. Also check the option to disable desktop composition.

Poor performance with AMD graphics

Fix Turn shadows offLink

Turn the shadows off within the in-game settings

Corrupted textures or black boxes on screen with AMD graphics

Fix Set Anti-Aliasing to 'Application Controlled'Link

Caused by anti-aliasing being forced by the AMD Vision Engine Control Center. Set anti-aliasing to 'Application Controlled'.

Game will not launch in Steam

Fix Download DLL file and/or unplug game controllersLink

Download dinput8.dll. Place it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead. The game should now launch.

Unplugging game controllers may fix the problem as well.

Game Choices not saving between episodes or Episode showing "Coming Soon"

Fix Copy prefps.propLink

The game stores two copies of a file called prefs.prop on your computer in different locations, and sometimes these can get out of sync. This has been especially noted to happen when moving from Episode 2 to 3, and Episode 4 to 5. It is highly recommended that you back up all your saves and both prefs.prop files in a completely separate location before you do this.

First, look in the folders listed below and find the prefs.prop file with the largest size, then copy this file over the smaller one. If copying the largest file doesn't work, go to your backups and copy the one with the latest modified date over the older one. The file you replace may be in either the user folder or the Steam folder, make sure you compare them both.

[edit] Issues unresolved

[edit] No Invert Y-Axis Option

This game does not include a native invert y-axis option.[3]

The utility SakasaMouse or Polynomial's Mouse Inverter will invert y-axis on the mouse controls, and is reported to work in the game. Using this driver will also invert the y-axis mouse controls for all aspects of the game, including menu items.

The Walking Dead does not recognize any analogue stick inversions using Xpadder.[4]
