Below is a list of games which have custom DRM code which activates if the game detects that it is (improperly) copied.

Game Dev Tycoon The player's company suffers piracy and starts losing money gradually until bankrupt. Playing the version of the game intentionally released by the developers on torrent sites.
Gangsters: Organized Crime All agents start in prison.
Garry's Mod Displays an error message containing the nonsensical[1] text "Unable to shade polygon normals" and the player's Steam ID in place of an actual error ID, intended to reveal pirates as they attempt to troubleshoot.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Chances for permanent rain to be triggered, pickups to be disabled.
  • Civilians not relevant to main missions are absent if loading a saved game with less than 40 minutes of play time.
  • The game crashes if loading a saved game with more than 40 minutes of play time.
  • Sniper rifles inflict no damage.
  • Garages are disabled after 35 minutes of play time.
  • Radar icons (including the arrow) are disabled after the first roadblock is encountered.
  • The stats menu is blank.

Mirror's Edge Sprinting is disabled.
Moto Racer 2
  • Bike speed limits enforced.
  • Steam version does not bypass this DRM.

Postal The Postal Dude shoots himself in the head at the game's start, causing an automatic defeat.
Sacred After attempting to enter a dungeon, the player character is teleported to the Mal-Ork-A island from which there is no exit. The island can be legitimately visited as well, but in such cases a boat is present.
Serious Sam 3
  • After killing the first enemy, a very fast and invincible arachnoid follows and attacks the player.
  • In the Under the Iron Cloud level, the player loses control over the camera, which starts spinning as it points directly upwards.
The Settlers III
  • The iron smelter produces pigs. (Pun possibly intended)
  • Trees planted by the forester do not grow.
  • Both methods completely prevent weapon production.
Sid Meier's Pirates! (1987)
  • Increased difficulty of the duel tutorial
  • Losing the duel tutorial results in receiving a smaller crew and a single pinnacle as the starting ship
Failing the manual code lookup prompts.
The Sims 2
  • Placing walls is disabled.
  • Several clothing and furnishing options are absent.
  • Save/load system is disabled.
Take On Helicopters Blurred and distorted display.
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders The player ends up in jail, followed by a police officer's monologue about software piracy. Failing the manual code lookup prompts.
