Version Differences

Best Version

Driver San Francisco Deluxe Edition is the most complete version of the game. It includes four bonus single player challenges and three bonus multiplayer cars. The bonus single player challenges are a "Mass Chase" which involves a large police chase, a "Relay Race" which involves a race including changing cars between laps, the "Russian Hills Racers" which involves racing 3 super cars through the San Francisco hills and "Taxi", a race in downtown San Francisco involving taxis. The three bonus multiplayer cars are the Aston Martin DB5, the Lamborghini Miura and the Shelby Cobra 427.

The "Special Edition" of Driver San Francisco includes the "Taxi" single player race and the Aston Martin DB5 multiplayer car and none of the other bonus content.

Digital Rights Management (DRM)

All versions of Driver San Francisco require Ubisoft's Uplay client, which requires an internet connection in order to launch the game.

Issues and Fixes

Black Border With Certain Aspect Ratio's

Playing Driver San Francisco using a screen with a 4:3, 5:4 or 16:10 aspect ratio will result in a black border being displayed at the top and bottom of the screen. WidescreenGamingForum.com has fixed this issue with a new .exe file. In order to fix this you must download a fixed driver.exe file from Widescreen Gaming Forum and replace the default file with this.

Extract the .exe from the zip file, and then replace the default driver.exe file with the new one. By default, the file can be found in this directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Driver San Francisco

Or in this directory for the Steam version of the game:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\driver san francisco\

Note: It is advisable to backup the original driver.exe file prior to replacing it in case something goes wrong.

Stuttering Gameplay/Cinematics

Although nothing concrete has been found, many find the reason for the stuttering to be related to Ubisoft's DRM of the game, which, as of late was removed. The needed connection to the internet however, was not. Thus, during peak hours until the game can be relieved of server overdrive, The game will normally run poorly until a fix has been made.

Fix: The first solution is to simply make sure your drivers are all updated to their latest version, Players who find that their game is still stuttering, either regularly in heavy increments, or in short bursts will have to remove the connection to either the internet (manually disconnecting an Ethernet cable or any other connection, then inserting again) or create a block in one's anti virus firewall for the game's connection to the internet. This will not affect the game or start up of said game, this may, however affect online play. Also, a warning will come up from Ubisoft, while in game, and state that you need a connection, they are lying, disregard such a warning.

Game Starts Full Screen, Sound, but no Video

A temporary fix for this problem:

  1. Open %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Ubisoft\Driver San Francisco\graphics.ini
  2. Change Fullscreen = 1 to Fullscreen = 0
