Fortnite is a multiplayer battle royale and TPS game primary developed and published by Epic Games

It was released in early access on July 21, 2017, before the full release three years later on June 29, 2020.

The Chapter 4 Season 1 update added support for Unreal Engine 5.1, which brought support for Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps and Temporal Super Resolution to the game. As of Chapter 2 Season 4 (August 27, 2020) the game is no longer being developed for macOS.[8] The last supported version is 13.40.[9]

Fortnite Save The World / Standard Edition

The original mode of the game; a PvE co-op campaign that was released to Early Access on July 25, 2017 and remained as such up until June 30, 2020.[6] While Epic originally mentioned that the intention was to make the mode free-to-play when was released,[12] during the 2020 release announcement they stated that the mode would remain a premium experience rather than going free-to-play.[6]
The Standard Edition includes the PvE co-op campaign, 7 pinata packs, and 4 in-game icons.

Shader compilation stutter

DX12 Shaders and Pre-download Streamed Assets are available to download from options, however the stutter will still persist through out the game.[23]
The game suffers from severe shader compilation related stutters during gameplay, this occurs whenever a new effect is displayed and thus whenever a new shader has to be compiled.[24][25]

Beta support for DirectX 12 was added in patch v11.20.[27] DirectX 12 became default renderer on higher-end hardware as of the Chapter 4 Season 1 update. DirectX 11 does not support Lumen and Nanite.[15]

Nanite Virtualized Geometry setting requires an Nvidia GeForce Maxwell generation or an AMD Radeon GCN 1 generation video card. GeForce RTX 2080 or Radeon RX 5700 are recommended.[15]
For Epic quality presets the recommendations are Intel Core i7-8700 3.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, and an NVMe SSD.[9]
Starting with Chapter 4 Season 2 (March 10, 2023) the game requires Windows 10 or higher. Support for Windows 7 and 8 has been retired.[30]
