Widescreen resolution

Steam version supports widescreen (including 4K Ultra HD) natively, but it features a problematic Vert- FOV change, as well as stretching game graphics.

Widescreen fix (Hor+)

Download Widescreen fix for Hitman: Contracts, unzip it and copy the contents to <path-to-game>. Open the video driver control panel. In the Adjust Desktop Size and Position section, set the Scaling option to Full-screen. (Optional) If you want to change the resolution, go to <path-to-game>\scripts\. Open h3.ini and edit the Width and Height values. Notes Correct widescreen aspect ratio while maintaining the original vertical field of view (FOV). Vsync is working and enabled by default. Ability to limit the frame rate through the video driver control panel (60 FPS limit is recommended). Ability to add anti-aliasing via SMAA, FXAA shaders in ReShade (DirectX 9 converter is already included in this fix). Fully stable solution with no crashes or graphics bugs. It is strongly recommended not to change the in-game graphics settings such as resolution to avoid conflicts.

Go to <path-to-game> and open HitmanContracts.ini. Add Window 1 on a new line. Change StartUpperPos 2,2 to StartUpperPos 0,0.

Issues unresolved

Enable OpenGl effects in the Direct3D rendered

Certain graphical effects are only available when using Direct3D whilst others only available with OpenGL. Also post-processing injectors typically cause heavy artifacts and graphical glitches.

Restore the raindrop, fog, and water effects

Open hitmancontracts.exe with a HEX editor. Find the 1st hex string 53 6A 18 53 50 FF 92 FC 00 00 00. Replace it with 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90. Find the 2nd hex string 6A 00 6A 18 6A 00 50 FF 92 FC 00 00 00. Replace it with 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90. A pre-made version of this fix is available here. 2nd hex string still needs to be replaced manually. Restores the raindrop effect in most levels along with other effects. Not all OpenGL effects have been restored.

Issues fixed

High frame rate issues

The physics and logic of the game are linked to 60 FPS, so playing at high fps can cause significant problems.

Limit the Framerate to 60 FPS
Apply the Widescreen fix. Set max frame rate to 60 FPS in the video driver control panel or other software limiters.

Use DirectX 9 convertor
Download the d3d8to9. Copy d3d8.dll to <path-to-game> set the monitor refresh rate to 60 Hz.. Notes Incompatible with widescreen fix.

Vsync doesn't work on Windows 10

Game crashes in some integrated Intel Graphics cards

Run the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP3)
Go to <path-to-game>. Turn on Windows XP (SP3) compatibility mode in the Hitman.exe properties.
