Essential improvements

Skip intro videos

Delete or rename intro videos files[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\video\
  2. Delete or rename intel_sting.bk2 and sting.bk2.

Notes

Some users have reported loss of Racenet connectivity and game save failures as a result of renaming or deleting the video files.[citation needed]
Replacing the files instead of deleting/removing them, even with 0 byte placeholders will resolve connectivity/save failure issues.[citation needed]

Activate Intel graphics options

Open hardware_settings_options.xml[2]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\system\
  2. Edit hardware_settings_options.xml.
  3. Replace all <option name="on" lng="lng_on" dx11Only="true" intelExtensionsOnly="true"> with <option name="on" lng="lng_on" dx11Only="true" intelExtensionsOnly="false">
  4. Save hardware_settings_options.xml file.
Steam will re-download this file if you verify integrity so you will need to repeat the process.

Regardless of where the game is installed, the Windows version will attempt to use the %PROGRAMDATA% area to store the in-game replays. The game will work with a Windows NTFS junction point, allowing the folder to be mapped to alternate locations/drives.

Use FOV Changer[citation needed]
  1. Download and run Dirt3FovChange.
  2. Specify the base installation folder.
  3. Set the vertical FOV and enable the desired cameras. Make sure that "chase close reverse", "chase far reverse", "head cam", and "head cam reverse" are always disabled. Also do NOT adjust any of the "head offset" and "head tilt change" settings.
  4. Click on start to apply the changes.

The game can send telemetry data to supported software like SimHub and devices like motion platforms, bass shakers and telemetry displays through the UDP protocol. Also support D-Box haptic/motion platforms through a proprietary protocol.[3] Requires editing the hardware_settings_config.xml file to enable them.

Controller support

The developer had provided a list of supported racing wheels. Devices not listed may work, but the user will have to manually map each action.
Devices listed with Italics denotes unofficial support and are found in the devicesetup.xml file, xml files located in <path-to-game>\input as well as support through compatibility mode on the wheels/wheel bases.
