Issues fixed
Stuttering on Creators Update 1709 and up
Instruction[7]
|
Once the free memory is exhausted, performance takes a big hit - games with heavy caching like BF1 suffer horribly. The only way to fix it previously was restarting the computer (thus clearing the memory), which explains why it was only happening after a while and not on a fresh boot.
- Download EmptyStandbyList and put it somewhere where you won't move it.
- Right click > Properties and select Run as Admin under compatibility.
- Open Task Scheduler > Create Task on the far right
- General Tab (give it a name). Under security options > Change user or group > Advanced > Find Now > go down and choose SYSTEM (important to make it run silently in the background). Tick 'Run with highest privileges' and 'Hidden' at the bottom. Pictures here
- Triggers tab > New > On a schedule > One Time. Tick repeat task every 5 minutes (possibly excessive but it causes no issues). Also choose 'for the duration of: indefinitely'
- Actions tab > Start A program > Point to the EmptyStandbyList.exe file.
- Done! Standby memory is automatically cleared every 5mins.
|
Use InSpectre
|
- May lower stuttering and FPS issues on configurations with low RAM and weak CPU.[8]
- Restart needed after changes.
- Your system will be vulnerable for Spectre and Meltdown.
|
Disable "Control Flow Guard" in Windows Defender[9]
|
Use this instruction and choose executable. Don't turn off CFG globally - it's a major security breach.
- If you use another AV software, then you would naturally assume everything Defender related is disabled, and you would be wrong. If you use Defender, you will be brought to the Windows Defender Security Center straight away, but if you don't, you will end up on a Settings page saying that Windows Defender is not available because it's turned off. Click "Turn on Windows Defender Antivirus" - don't worry, your AV software will disable it again straight away.
|
Use DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 12[10]
|
- Despite lower FPS, the game can stutter less in DX11 mode.
|
Limit FPS (e.g. by V-Sync or MSI Afterburner/Riva Tuner) and increase resolution to 1440p on higher end GPUs[11]
|
- It will decrease CPU usage in cost of GPU usage, which can result by less stuttering.
|
Stuttering during pre-rendered cutscenes
Turn off FreeSync (AMD) or GSync (Nvidia)
|
Videos recorded by Nvidia Shadowplay's Instant Replay are in 720p
Set startup resolution in user.cfg[12]
|
Nvidia Shadowplay's Instant Replay uses game's startup resolution for recorded videos. Battlefield 1 and V start with 1280x720 and later change to user's chosen resolution. One way to fix this is to create user.cfg in game's folder and paste:
Window.Width 1920
Window.Height 1080
Change values to correspond to your desired resolution
|
Stuttering In-Game (Nvidia GPUs)
Set Maximum pre-rendered frames in Nvidia Control Panel to:
- Use the 3D Application Setting
|
Disable Nvidia's Low Latency Mode[13]
|
Input lag on mouse and keyboard
Disable the Origin overlay from the Origin client.
