Essential improvements

Skip startup game intros

Completely deleting or renaming the intro video files results in a black screen at launch.
Manually empty intro video files[1]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\data\movie\;
  2. Open b_jp_0000.sfd, b_us_0000.sfd, and pg.sfd with a text editor;
  3. Delete all content in these files;
  4. Save the files.
Replace intro videos with empty ones through a mod[citation needed]
  1. Download and unzip the SEGA and Platinum Intro Skip archive into <path-to-game>\data\movie\, replacing all existing files.

Issues unresolved

Weapon never overheats when frame rate is lower than 30

A problem brought up by patch 1.03 and still present as of patch 1.05.[citation needed]

Issues fixed

Game defaults to an unsupported resolution

Start game in windowed mode[3]

Use the -window command line argument.

Not all motion blur effects are disabled when turned off in the graphics menu

Disable more of the motion blur effects[3]

Use the -extendedmotionbluroff command line argument with motion blur turned off in graphics settings.

Slowdown/low framerate during the visor cutscenes

Use the -fastvisor command line argument[3]
This command-line option was introduced in patch 1.04.
This may improve frame rate during these sections.

Stuttering when moving the mouse

Close MSI Afterburner[citation needed]

Command line parameters

See command line arguments on how to use the following options.[3]
Parameter Description
-extendedmotionbluroff Will disable more of the motion blur effects when Motion Blur is turned off in the graphics menu.
-unlockaspectratio Removes the borders on the top/bottom or left/right of the screen in non-16:9 aspect ratios. Please note that Vanquish was originally designed to a 16:9 aspect ratio only, and as such, certain UI elements will be distorted with the lock disabled.
-fov XX Use a number between 40-120 to change the field of view. The game was designed for an FOV of 80°, so errors may occur at other values.
-monitor X This will allow users to select which monitor to treat as the primary device, which will allow full screen exclusive to work on that display.
-audio X Force the game to use the selected device rather than the default device (may help players with audio device issues).
-window This will force the game to boot into windowed mode (should help if the game is defaulting to an unsupported resolution).
–fulltone Players should try this if they're having issues with the brightness rapidly changing (may very slightly impact performance).
–fastvisor For players experiencing slowdown in the visor cutscenes, may improve frame rate in these sections.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/460810/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (460810) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
