Forcing V-sync solution + framerate fix (direct 8 to 9 via dxwrapper)

Hello, I am posting here since I am inexperienced with the tools on how to create sections in the page so I am kindly requesting a member to create it.

Silent Hill 3, like many DirectX8 games of the era often run badly on newer windows 10 machines as they don't like d3d8, a simple fix to this is various solutions that wrap 8 to 9.

For a while, custom patches or crosire's d3d8to9 was the top solution to fix these but recently i've stumbled upon a better one with more features and customizability; elishacloud's dxwrapper.

To put it simply, this comes with additional .dll and an .ini file that lets you force enable other enhancements like AA, AF and V-sync. Installation is easy as drag and drop and and modify the dxwrappper.ini to enable d3d8to9 and enable v-sync.

TL;DR better d3d8t09 solution that comes with an .ini that lets you force v-sync and enable d3d8to9. So you don't need steam006's patch. compatible and tested with thirteenag's widescreen fix.

unrelated but I believe they are also working on SH2:EE no wonder why this is top quality stuff.

since pcgw doesn't let me post links, please look it up yourself, thanks. If anyone's interested, I can write install instructions to this.

The patch by Steam006 contains a reported virus

the "SH3_LisaAudioHelper.exe" file within the Sounds folder of the patch is seen as a trojan by Windows Defender "Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.B!ml"

Hopefully this is a false positive and the author can rectify this.

Should be a false positive, yeah. I have used various patches and fixes from him and all have been safe.

how do the voices from the HD-collection belong under "essential improvements" when they are in fact "very divisive and often considered to be inferior to the original voice-acting", just like the ones from part two? please accept facts and stay objective here and don't change it any more. this is a wiki. thanks.

Jigen123 (talkcontribs)

Yeah, this is a wiki. A technical wiki. Opinions have no place on this site. One thing is true tho: listing that mod under "Essential improvements" is totally incorrect.

Differences from the console versions

There are some differences between the PS2 and PC versions. That scene near the beginning with the Closer attack, for example, is missing the muzzle flash when Heather starts shooting it on the PC release. There are a few scenes later that are missing some post-processing color adjustments that the PS2 version receives, and the PS2 version is a bit more vibrant in general. The PC version uses per-pixel lighting for the flashlight, resulting in a much smoother beam than the PS2's per-vertex. Moreover, though, there are a bunch of things that are just *different*.

> There are some sound alterations. The audio has been altered in a few cutscenes (Thessaly Lerner and Michael G's voices have been omitted, and there is a sound added after the elevator descent in the mall), the pitch of some noises have been changed (the screaming mannequin's voice is much higher on the PS2 version; on the PC version it's the same scream Heather makes when she falls to her death). There are some new loading screens. The chapel is slightly tweaked; on the PS2 version, after Heather acquires the Brass Key, the hallway outside of the confessional area has some bloody trails on the wall. On the PC version, it is completely enveloped by fiery, swarming, bloody patterns. The zoom function is also intensely magnified.

Compare the walls [here (PS2)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPxcmAUCDwM&feature=youtu.be&t=124) (happens at 2:04 if the timestamp doesn't work) and [here \(PC\)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYZ8shiCiuo&feature=related) (happens almost immedaitely).

I'm super interested in a notion of an enhanced patch. There's so much less work that needs to be done to get it up to par with the PS2 version that I'd be surprised if someone didn't take up the mantle eventually. Maybe once they get SH2's enhancement finalized.

Great, two plugins for the same game... (sarcasm)

Sh3proxy is by 07151129.

Nemesis Widescreen Fix is by Nemesis.

Can we get these two to work together to create one ultimate plugin, instead of two plugins, each with their own pros and cons, which conflict in some areas with each other? For the sake of simplicity.

I don't own the game, but the v-sync note seems weird at my eyes if somebody would be so kind to check it..
