Essential improvements

Patches

Patch 1.0.2 (Mac OS) is a very important patch, fixing a crash issue in the single player mode in the third level.
No patches have been released for the Windows version.

Playing on modern systems

This installer should get around an issue related to the game not installing on 64-bit operating systems (English release only).
The software rendering mode appears to be most stable and compatible of all three.
Direct3D renderer looks best.
The 3dfx renderer has black outlines on transparent textures and will fail to render some of the laser obstacles, but they should be fairly easy to detect and avoid.
Be sure to edit the controller configuration in controls.txt after installation.
Installing the game with Direct3D rendering
  1. Insert the game's installation disc, then download this installer and run it.
  2. Use all defaults during the installation, except when choosing components to install - select the "DirectX Rendering" component.
  3. Set up dgVoodoo2.
  4. Run FCopLAPD.exe as an administrator.
Installing the game with 3dfx/software rendering, method 1[1]
  1. Insert the game's installation disc, then download this installer and run it.
  2. Use all defaults during the installation.
  3. Download and install nGlide.
  4. Run FCopLAPD.exe as an administrator.
Installing the game with 3dfx/software rendering, method 2[2]
  1. Insert the game's installation disc, then download this installer and run it.
  2. Use the default native resolution output, don't change something during the install
  3. Download DgVoodoo 2 and install 3DFX dgVoodoo2 DLLs to the Future Cop folder
  4. Set the following compatibility mode settings to FCopLAPD.exe: running as administrator, compatibility mode for Windows 98/Me and 16-bit (65536) color mode.
  5. Run the game.
