Camy 2: The Machine is an singleplayer platform game developed and published by Gaimplay. It's the second title in a series of Camy games.

Camy 2: The Machine was first released in the year 2000 around October 1st (exact date unknown) on Windows. The game was available for download (from v2.0 to v2.2) from the gaimplay.com site[1] and TUCOWS Games[2]. It was also bundled with many computer magazines on the included CDs. The game later recived major update to version 2.3 which included three new Ball Blasters and the ability to carry the Ball Blasters with player permanently. In 2001-2002 the company released Camy 2: The Machine v2.3 Special Edition and The Camy Collection which included the updated version (v2.3 Special Edition) of the game.

Camy 2: The Machine is not under active development. The last version (Camy 2: The Machine v2.3 Special Edition) was sold separately via Regnow and was bundled with The Camy Collection.

Official

The original release was included with PC magazines and saw a freeware release on Gaimplay website.

Special Edition

The Special Edition was released later in 2001 and was based on the freeware version with exclusive content added, such as 5 unique Ballblasters or Stage passwords. It also included the first Dear Camy game. In 2002 Gaimplay released The Camy Collection which included this version of the game.

Challenging Edition

The Challenging Edition was based on the Special Edition. It featured reworked levels to make the game more challenging. It was available only in The Camy Collection.

Demos

Two trial versions were released:
All trial versions are no longer available for download from official website.
The trial version of The Camy Collection game can be obtained from the Internet Archive. It will only run under Windows XP or older due to Softwrap DRM.

This game does not save progress, however the paid version (v2.3 Special Edition or bundled with The Camy Collection) has level code system. Every 6 levels the game will display the code needed to start the game at later stage.

Issues fixed

The game logs errors in the <path-to-game>\Errors.txt file. You can look there for clues.

VBIE - Initialize - Class not registered

Add missing DirectX dlls to Windows
  1. Download dx7vb.dll.
  2. Copy dx7vb.dll to <path-to-game>\.
  3. Open cmd.exe as administrator.
  4. Run regsvr32.exe <path-to-game>\dx7vb.dll.

VBGE - Initialize - Object doesn't support this action

Enable Windows Compatibility Mode
  1. Enable the following compatibility settings for the <path-to-game>\Camy2.exe (or <path-to-game>\DC2.exe) file: Compatibility mode Windows 98 / Windows ME
  2. Run the game once, then close it
  3. Disable the previously applied compatibility settings for <path-to-game>\Camy2.exe (or <path-to-game>\DC2.exe).

Notes

If the error still shows up after you followed these steps you may need to leave Windows 98 compatibility mode turned on permanently.

Game runs slow

Use DxWrapper
  1. Download DxWrapper.
  2. Copy dxwrapper.ini, dxwrapper.dll, dxwrapper.asi and Stub\dciman32.dll from archive to <path-to-game>\.
  3. Open the <path-to-game>\dxwrapper.ini in the text editor.
  4. Under [Compatibility] set Dd7to9 and DisableGameUX to 1
  5. Under [Dd7to9] set DdrawUseNativeResolution and DdrawMaintainAspectRatio to 1
  6. Under [d3d9] set EnableVSync and EnableWindowMode to 1
