Avernum Not Working

This usually happens with the Steam/Direct2Drive/GamersGate versions of the game
  1. Download and install the Avernum demo, the DirectX version ships with this version of the game.
  2. Go to the installation folder.
  3. Run Avernum DirectX.exe

Uninstall and Reinstall the game, your saves may be corrupted[1]

Game Playing Slowly

Change around settings[3]
Press Shift+D, enter fps, and check if your FPS is unsatisfactory. If so, do the following:
  1. Run as few other programs as possible in the background.
  2. On the Video Mode window that comes up when you launch the game, choose to play in a window and then select a small size for the window. Alternately, run the game, select Game Options on the title screen, and set Game Area Size to Small.
  3. Run the game, select Game Options on the title screen, and set Graphics Extra Details to Don't Draw.
