16:9 Cutscenes

Use Special K for 16:9 cutscenes.
Does not remove letterboxing in Shenmue 2.

Edit executables

Cutscenes are limited to 4:3 by default. By editing the game's executables, they can be forced to render in 16:9 instead. Multiple ways of doing this can be found here

Shenmue I and II - 16:9 Widescreen patch has fullscreen cutscenes without black bars support in Shenmue 2.

Issues fixed

Cannot get past the launcher

It is possible to bypass the launcher if it does not work properly (usually related to .NET Framework issues on the system).

Create a launcher bypass file^[2]

Go to <path-to-game>.
Open either the sm1 or sm2 subfolder, i.e. the binary folder of either game (which will include either Shenmue.exe or Shenmue2.exe).
Create a blank text file within that folder called steam_appid.txt.
In that text file, enter 758330 and then save the file.
Create a shortcut to/run the game via the aforementioned Shenmue.exe or Shenmue2.exe.
(Optional) Repeat for the other binary folder if required.

HD Environmental Texture Overhaul - Overhauls textures in the Shenmue I environment. Requires the Special K mod.
HD Ryo Outfit - Improves the quality of Ryo's clothes. Requires the Special K mod.
New Coke Vending Machine - Brings back the Coca-Cola machines that were in the original Japanese release. Requires the Special K mod.
Original Dreamcast Textures - Reverts all texture changes from Shenmue I & II back like it were on the original Dreamcast/Xbox release.
HD Skybox for Shenmue I - This is a work-in-progress mod to convert all the sky boxes in Shenmue I to high-res versions.
HD Notebook - Remastered version of original notebook.
Hazuki Dojo HD textures - This mod replaces most of the interior textures in the Hazuki Dojo with 4k versions.
Ine-San HD - Changes Ine-San textures to HQ counterparts.
Upscaled Passport Jacket HD - Jacket texture from the Shenmue passport upscaled using deep learning/super resolution technology.
Dobuita New Face - HD Texture - Change quality of textures to HD for Dobuita.
Streamer2k Textures - Better Textures for Shenmue - "Better Textures" is an overhaul HD texture mod for Shenmue. Most of the textures included have 2k/4k resolution (or more!).

Shenmue II

Redreamcasted - Japanese Voice Restoration - This mod aims to fix everything they broke in the Japanese audio in the re-release and return it to its Dreamcast form.
Ryo HD Jacket - This mod features an HD jacket texture for Ryo.
HD Jeans - This mod features HD jeans textures for Ryo.
HD Environmental Texture Overhaul - Overhauls textures in the Shenmue II environment. Requires the Special K mod.
HD Xiuying Hong - This mod features recreated HD textures for Xiuying Hong.
STFU Memobook Music Mod - This mod quiets down the Memobook in Shenmue 2 because the music is too loud. Compatible with English and Japanese voice overs.

Kaldaien's Special K Mod - Fixes issues with Texturing Filtering (for black textures problem in Shenmue I, use this mod).
