Essential Improvements

Ultimate Talkie Edition

Uses the 2010 Special Edition version to create a fan-patched version which adds bug fixes and speech. Unlike the Special Edition version, it can be run from ScummVM, DOS or DOSBox.

Changing language

If the configuration file is deleted, the language selection prompt will appear next time the game is started.
To change the language without losing other settings, edit the configuration file and modify the language=x line. Valid values are 0-English, 1-French, 2-Italian, 3-German, 4-Spanish.[8]

Issues fixed

Crash when installed in a 3 TB hard drive partition

The Game will refuse to run when installed on a large drive partition.[9]
Installing the game on a smaller partition will fix this issue[citation needed]

DVD version launcher does not work on Windows 10

Running Launcher.exe shows a black screen and "Failed to initialize renderer" pop-up
Set Launcher.exe to run in Windows 95 compatibility mode[10][11]

Choppy scrolling or low FPS

The game's built-in FPS limiter may cause choppiness or low framerates
Game executable needs to be de-obfuscated using Steamless before applying the fix.
Hex-edit the executable to remove the frame limiter[12]
  1. Open Monkey2.exe in a hex editor, such as HxD.
  2. Search for 76 05 0F 57 C0 EB 06.
  3. Replace it with 89 C0 0F 57 C0 EB 06.
  4. Make sure to use a frame limiter (such as the one in the Nvidia Control Panel) to cap the game's FPS below 1000, or the game may not start.
