Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Master Collection Version is a singleplayer first-person and third-person and top-down view action stealth game published by Konami. It is part of the Metal Gear series.

The original game, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and published by Konami on PlayStation 2 in 2001, and chronologically takes place after the events of Metal Gear Solid (1998 video game). The expanded re-release, Substance, was released on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC in 2002/2003, which added over 300 additional missions, along with five side story missions featuring Solid Snake.

It was later included in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, developed by Bluepoint Games and released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. The HD Edition included in the HD Collection serves as the basis for the Master Collection Version.

Change resolution

Use MGSResolutionPatch[1]
  1. Download Ultimate ASI loader.
  2. Copy d3d11.dll to <path-to-game>.
  3. Download the latest version of MGSResolutionPatch.
  4. Copy MGSResolutionPatch.asi and MGSResolutionPatch.ini to <path-to-game>.
  5. Set the desired resolution in MGSResolutionPatch.ini.

Notes

The author of the plugin recommends setting the resolution to either 1920x1080 or 3840x2160 as other resolutions are not guaranteed to produce the intended results and might not work correctly.
Support for Metal Gear Solid 2 is still in an early stage. Increased resolutions introduce noticeable UI bugs.

Workaround for Ultra Wide Displays

Display changer to swap to 1080 to avoid game stretching on ultrawide displays[citation needed]
  1. Download https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TtTAE4l_h-_iBECxfnIUWzZyfJ37Y2md?usp=drive_link.
  2. Copy dccmd.exe and mgs2or3ultrawideworkaround.bat to <path-to-game>.
  3. In steam right click on the game and click properties.
  4. Paste mgs2or3ultrawideworkaround.bat %command%.
  5. Set your desired resolutions to switch to at boot (line 1) and after game closes (line 7) in mgs2or3ultrawideworkaround.bat.
