Key points

Last game in the Ultima series developed originally for Apple II. PC was adopted as the new primary platform for series during the development of Ultima VI: The False Prophet.
Characters can be imported from Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar (see Import characters).
The PC version has improved graphics over the Apple II and C64 versions.
The Apple II and C64 versions pushed their respective platforms to their limits (while still having all the features) and especially the C64 version suffers from large amount of disk access. On the other hand, the PC version has the advantage of hard drive and more powerful hardware for smoother gameplay.
The unpatched PC version works without issues on the faster systems.
The original Apple II version has full soundtrack, which requires 128 kilobytes of RAM and a sound card or Passport Designs' MIDI expansion. The Commodore 64 version also has this soundtrack, although it is only available when running the game in the native mode of Commodore 128. The soundtrack is missing from the PC version, which does not support any soundcards.
The U5 Upgrade adds the original soundtrack in MIDI format, supporting various sound cards and General MIDI. It also adds a theme from the Amiga version, when importing or creating a character.
