Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Master Collection Version is a singleplayer stealth game published by Konami. It is part of the Metal Gear series.

The original game, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and published by Konami on PlayStation 2 in 2004, and chronologically takes place before the events of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. The expanded version, Subsistence, was released on PlayStation 2 in 2005 and added new features such as skill challenge missions, side story missions, third-person camera, and online multiplayer (in the form of Metal Gear Online).

It was later included in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, developed by Bluepoint Games and released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. The HD Edition, which serves as the basis for the Master Collection Version, was based on the Subsistence version, but contents such as Duel Mode, Snake vs. Monkey, Snake's Nightmare minigame and online modes were removed, and the Secret Theater was replaced with the Demo Theater.

The Master Collection Version of the game was released on October 24, 2023, marking the debut of Metal Gear Solid 3 on PC.

Widescreen resolution

Use MGSHDFix
Use MGSResolutionPatch[1]
  1. Download Ultimate ASI loader.
  2. Copy d3d11.dll to <path-to-game>.
  3. Download the latest version of MGSResolutionPatch.
  4. Copy MGSResolutionPatch.asi and MGSResolutionPatch.ini to <path-to-game>.
  5. Set the desired resolution in MGSResolutionPatch.ini.

Notes

The author of the plugin recommends setting the resolution to either 1920x1080 or 3840x2160 as other resolutions are not guaranteed to produce the intended results and might not work correctly. However, 2560x1440 appears to work correctly as well.
Increasing the resolution may slightly alter some post-processing effects like Depth of Field and make them less pronounced. No known fix at this time.

Ultra-widescreen

The game does not support ultra-widescreen resolutions and the 16:9 image is stretched by default.
Use MGSHDFix
Use display changer script to avoid stretching[citation needed]
  1. Download the script.
  2. Copy dccmd.exe and mgs2or3ultrawideworkaround.bat to <path-to-game>.
  3. Add mgs2or3ultrawideworkaround.bat %command% to the game's launch options on Steam.
  4. Set the desired resolution to switch at game startup (line 1) and after the game closes (line 7) in mgs2or3ultrawideworkaround.bat.
