===Version differences===

{{ii}} Mac OS version of the game contains additional levels from Super Nintendo version and improved textures/sprites. Like the SNES version it also has two additional features that somewhat change it's gameplay from the original PC version. The first being that the game includes the console versions' custom weapons, the Flame Thrower and Rocket Launcher. The second is that it only has forward facing enemy sprites, meaning you cannot sneak up on guards and they also will not patrol the halls. The last one is often considered to be more detrimental as it completely removes any stealth aspect from the game, arguably transforming it into a "run-n-gun maze shooter". The Mac version however, unlike the PC version, was designed for modding; custom levels (referred to as ''Scenarios'') were readily selectable from the episode menu.<ref>[http://wolfenstein.wikia.com/wiki/Mac_Family Mac Family - Wolfenstein Wiki - Wikia]</ref>

{{ii}} [https://forum.drdteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=192&t=6432 Wolfenstein Sprite Fix Project] not really a high-res pack, but does correct inconsistencies in the original PC textures. Somewhat redundant if you have a high-res pack.

Wolf3D is crashing because the external menu program tries to rename some files using wildcards, which DOSBox does not support.
+
{{ii}} The external menu program tries to rename some files using wildcards which DOSBox does not support, thus causing the crash.
You can work around the situation by using the [https://www.4dos.info/v4dos.htm 4DOS command shell], which has more full-featured versions of DOS commands. Place 4DOS.COM in the root of your mounted C: drive, and then type "SET COMSPEC=C:\4DOS.COM" in DOSBox prior to running the addon. You can put the SET command in the autoexec section of your conf file for convenience. You should also probably re-install Wolf3D and the addon because of the leftover files that didn't get renamed. To make the map descriptions work you will also need FreeDOS's [http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/1.2/repos/pkg-html/more.html MORE.COM], place it in your wolf3d folder.
+
# Download [https://www.4dos.info/v4dos.htm 4DOS command shell].

Issues fixed

Lag/Low FPS (Steam DOSBox release)

Modify the wolf3d.conf file[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\base and edit wolf3d.conf.
  2. Set fulldouble to false.
  3. Save and close.

Super Upgrades crashes in DOSBox

Use an external shell[2]
The external menu program tries to rename some files using wildcards which DOSBox does not support, thus causing the crash.
  1. Download 4DOS command shell.
  2. Place 4DOS.COM in the root of the mounted C: drive.
  3. Enter SET COMSPEC=C:\4DOS.COM in DOSBox prior to running the addon.
For convenience, put the SET command in the autoexec section of a configuration file dedicated to the game.
It is advised to re-install Wolf3D and the addon due to leftover files that didn't get renamed.
To make the map descriptions work, place FreeDOS's MORE.COM into Wolf3D's root folder.

Can't play the Mac version on OS X

Use ECWolf[3]
  1. Setup a Mac emulator for the classic OS (or use native hardware) and install MacPlay's Wolfenstein 3D on the disk.
  2. Copy the data file and executable app and MacBin them.
  3. Rename the binary wolf3d.bin and the data file wolflvls.bin.
  4. Copy them to your OS X machine and into the data folder for ECWolf.
  5. Download this shim file and place it in the data folder with the rest of the files for ECWolf to detect the scenario.
