Issues fixed

Run the game at screen refresh rate

Resolutions higher than 1024x768 are locked to 60 Hz, 1024x768 and below have a maximum of 100 Hz.
Set screen refresh rate[citation needed]
  1. Install Special K by following the Special K Unofficial Guide. Manual local installation may work better.
  2. Start the game once and close it to allow the configuration file of Special K to be created.
  3. Open <path-to-game>\d3d9.ini or %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\RW.exe\SpecialK.ini depending on the installation method you used.
  4. Change RefreshRate=-1 to RefreshRate=0 under [Render.FrameRate].
  5. Run the game as administrator if it's not starting properly.

Force Vsync to work

The game has Vsync set by default but even with FPS fixed to monitor refresh it still does not work (Windows 10, AMD card). Forcing in AMd control panel makes no difference.
Force Vsync with D3doverrider.exe
  1. Download D3doverrider.exe here.
  2. Setup instructions are on this page.

Stuttering

Use DInput8Wrapper
  1. Download DInput8Wrapper.
  2. Extract into <path-to-game>.
  3. Run the game.

Notes

If you are running a multi-monitor setup, you may need to use the dgVoodoo wrapper as well. Just enable the Capture Mouse option to lock the mouse to the games window.

Game crashes to desktop

The game randomly crashes during any single-player mission, usually within a few seconds of loading in.
Use WineD3D files[2]
  1. Download the latest version of WineD3D.
  2. Extract d3d9.dll and wined3d.dll into <path-to-game>.
Do not use the Windowed mode parameter, otherwise the screen will turn black upon reaching the main menu.
Do not Alt+Tab , the game will not maximize/display properly when trying to tab back in.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/22310/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (22310) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
