Change FPS Cap with Cheat Engine (SASRT)

2
Banan (talkcontribs)

I can't get the cheat engine method to work for changing the FPS cap for Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed. Could you provide me the code for a 30FPS cap?

Radmaxx (talkcontribs)

Hi Banan,

Throughout the page I mentioned several times the the in-engine cap is inaccurate and users should use external cappers as much as possible (RTSS, GPU Control Panel, etc.) or to force v-sync externally (with custom intervals, meaning 1/2 refresh rate on a 60Hz panel). Changing the FPS cap to a lower 30 FPS value will most likely give around ~28 FPS. If you're worried about the game speed differences that'll occur given a discrepancy between max and current frame rate, it shouldn't be an issue in your case; console versions are most likely running with the same 60 FPS internal limit but with 1/2 refresh v-sync.

However, I'm curious as to why the cheat engine method didn't work for you. Could you elaborate on that? Did you try hex editing the executable (even with the high frame rate values) to if see that would work?

Anyways, I currently don't have the game installed. If you insist on using the internal cap, It will take time for me to reinstall it and check the 30 FPS hex edit.

Hey Radmaxx. Thanks for all of your edits mentioning issues for games and adding fixes for them, especially for going to the extra work of formatting it correctly using fixboxes.

I just wanted to let you know that I came across some of your older edits from last year before you started using fixboxes, where I've gone ahead and cleaned it up somewhat, however there's one more thing left which is the reference. I assume like other fixes they are one's you discovered yourself so a {{Refcheck}} would be fine, however it feels wrong for me to be essentially signing your name to it on your behalf. Therefore would you be able to look over the changes and add the reference to it yourself? You can use the date as when you first made the edit (which is the same as what I marked the CN as).

Hi Dave247. Thank you for cleaning up some of those pages. When I started editing pages on the wiki, I wasn't fully familiar with how it should work so it looks very rough. I should also add that since the edits were made immediately after discovering a solution, instead of testing it thoroughly and realizing the exact nature of the issue, making the information added incomplete and possibly misinterpreted. If you look at the Need for Speed Underground and Sonic Forces pages, you may notice that my newer edits on those pages not just included fixboxes and general cleanup but also entirely new information and considerable corrections on what was added before.

The 3 titles mentioned here have a very similar situation. They all share an engine which I'm convinced behaves differently (and worse) on its PC branch despite improvements made to it from the developers in comparison to its console counterparts. The high FPS section of the older edits mentions minor and temporary stuttering when applying the fix, however after further testing I realized that its neither. In fact, even without the fix there are signs of micro-stuttering present in free roaming sections. Not to mention the fix causes a crash in a certain level in Shattered Dimensions. Applying the 144 FPS fixes on emulated console versions resulted in far more stable performance overall.

Until I have a better understanding of this behavior and hopefully a fix for it, I'm not planning on changing these pages. If you really want references added right away, you can go ahead and add them yourself. Thanks for reading!

All good, my main concern was to just try and neaten things up a bit as having a huge chunk of text in the notes field both not only doesn't look very nice but also is harder to read, hence the purpose of fixboxes.

The reason I noticed it was because a user on the Discord server was asking about the fix which was brought my attention to it, otherwise I likely never would of come across it otherwise as there is simply too many pages to keep track of it all, but that's where the benefit of having as many editors as possible as that way things will eventually be picked up by someone who comes across it.

Anyway, at the very least I wanted to let you know about the changes I made. The information though not perfect is still useful to people (as recently evident) as I know how difficult it can be to the proper research and then write it all up in a neat and easy to understand way, so again big props for all the time and effort you put in to that.

Hi, your edits are appreciated but you seriously need to start linking some sources. You are adding some pretty big claims to some pages. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for reading my edits. Every added subject was discovered by myself; though, When it comes to the version differences in the Carbon, SM3 and WoS pages, these were pretty obvious and I'm genuinely surprised they weren't discovered before. Since these differences are purely visual based, I can post screen shots like the whole motion blur/ bloom / light trail effect thing in carbon. problem is I don't really want use other outlets and if there's any way I can post here and right in the page, please help me on that front. As for the frame rate issues like the Prototypes and Sonic the hedgehog and Saints Row pages, I don't know what to do about them. I think they need to be verified by other users. And finally about the "The game relies on V-sync for correct frame pacing" sentences I added in Hot Pursuit (2010) and Most Wanted (2012) and Chameleon engine pages are something that I just felt. Proving those requires tools that I don't have. If there's anything I should do about those let me know. Thanks for reading!

Hello, thank you for your reply.
For graphics differences you can upload screenshots on imgur or similar services and then we will decide what to do.
Regarding your edits to the Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted and other pages, things that you just "feel" and can't be proven shouldn't be added to articles.
