The Essential Improvement makes it seem like every version of this game other than DVD needs this, but the patch doesn't seem to work on a Steam installation (Steam says my version is 1.0062A). We should either clarify that the patch doesn't work for Steam, isn't necessary for Steam, or provide instructions on how to make it work with Steam.

I agree with the issue.

Steam usually keeps your games up to date, doesn't it? Shouldn't be needed for Steam.

I think both Steam and GOG versions (I only have GOG) are V1.34A, which added support for higher resolutions among other things. This is laid out in ReadMe.txt in the game folder.
