Patches
- v1.7 is the latest patch available. The GOG.com version of game includes latest patch, and is compatible with modern systems.
- General Improvement Mod (GIM) - community made, fixing some issues on modern systems. Includes the v1.51 executable for DKII.exe (last version with functional AI) alongside a fixed v1.7 DKII-DX.exe, combined with GOG's fixed graphics renderer.

Issues unresolved
Main menu frame rate
The main menu (and anything associated with that area) has a generally poor frame rate. It is most likely caused by the display of the menu or overlay, however
this can be circumvented by using a wrapping program like dgvoodoo2 available at http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/
Issues fixed
LAG and low FPS - Windows 7, 8, 8.1 - 64 bit
Lag in first-person possession mode only
Instructions
|
- After launching the game, open the task manager (ctrl+alt+del)
- Right click on the DKII-DX.exe process and choose "Set Affinity"
- Select <All Processors> and click OK
|
Windows Vista compatibility
Known issues include startup crash, a black cover over what should be visible, and in-game crashes. The following steps fix most of these problems.
Instructions[3]
|
- Set compatibility mode for DKII.EXE to Windows XP (or Windows 2000).
- Create or modify a shortcut to Dungeon Keeper 2, and add commandline parameters
-32biteverything and -disablegamma .
- Disable Hardware Acceleration in the graphics menu (takes effect when you start a new map).
- Set resolution to 640x480.
- Disable QSound in the audio menu.
|
Crashes etc.
Copy unofficial patch "GIM_v1.05" (latest version, download), and run game through DKII-DX.exe
(set compatibility to windows 2000[citation needed]).
Map editor installation
- The instructions for installing the map editor are incorrect.
Editor installation[citation needed]
|
Extract the files within DK2Editor.zip to <path-to-game>\Data\editor instead of the folder described in the readme.
Notes
- If it was installed in the installation folder, you will receive an error message about being unable to find
GlobalVariables.kwd , and will need to kill the process (as it will otherwise remain at 100% CPU).
