Essential Improvements

Run in DOSBox

To improve DOSBox performance make the following changes to the DOSBox configuration file:

  • Change machine=svga_s3 to machine=tandy or pcjr
  • Change memsize=16 to memsize=00
  • Change cycles=auto to cycles=100
  • Change xms, ems and umb to false values.
Exact cycle amount may vary from computer to computer. Disabling unused audio devices (which in Castle Wolfenstein's case is all but pc speaker) may help with fine tuning the emulated speed.

Save game data location

Pressing Esc returns you to the main menu and saves your inventory and location. If you kill the game process (or the emulator it's running in) whilst you're still in game, both these items will be reset (similar to being caught or dying). Rank and castle are not affected by this.
