Lego Island is an open world action-adventure game developed and published by Mindscape and the second-ever video game (first outside Japan) based on the iconic Danish toy brand Lego. The game sees players explore a small island populated with some Lego buildings and minifigures, playing as one of five minifigures. It mostly doesn't have a plot except when playing as skateboarding pizza delivery boy Pepper Roni and after building a police helicopter and delivering a pizza to the island's jail, after which he has to stop an escaped criminal called the Brickster.
It was released for Windows on September 26, 1997.
Modern systems need workarounds for some compatibility problems; see Installing on modern versions of Windows. Keyboard control is extremely twitchy due to the game being programmed for low framerates. Using the LEGO Island Rebuilder is recommended.

- An official release of the soundtrack was never made. A project to restore the soundtrack to 44.1 kHz stereo from the original composer's backup tapes (compared to the 11.025 kHz mono found in-game[3]) can be found on the Project Island website.
- The Italian release uses SecuROM DRM copy protection.[4]
Essential improvements
LEGO Island Rebuilder
- Allows for frame rate capping, patching the notoriously-twitchy keyboard controls, and music replacement.
- Runs on hardware near-contemporaneous with the original release; see Frame rate (FPS).
- Works without administrator privileges.
- Game freezes when placed on the secondary monitor of an extended desktop. Game continues when being moved back to the primary desktop.
Error: "Lego Island failed to start"[5]
Run the games CONFIG.EXE as administrator[citation needed]

- The game locks its framerate to 90 FPS when exploring the world and either to 30 or 90 FPS in certain indoor environments.
- Since the game was never intended to run this fast (it was designed with 10 FPS in mind), many timer issues also arise as a result; for example, turning is very sensitive and many of the animations run too fast. A 30 FPS cap is recommended, to prevent animations from running too fast.
