Key points
- The GOG.com version of Baldur's Gate II comes with various extra items, as well as being a high-quality port of the original game to newer systems

Availability
Best version
The GOG.com version is pre-patched for modern systems and includes the expansion. Older versions, such as the original release, may have issues running on newer machines. Avoid the Dungeons & Dragons Classic Anthology, as it not only has issues installing on newer operating systems but also will not work with Baldur's Gate Tutu or Baldur's Gate Trilogy.
UPDATE 8/2013 - Easytutu WILL work on the D&D ANTHOLOGY pack. The trick is being able to do the INSTALL. For it to complete, the BG directory needs to add 1 file in order to successfully run Easytutu install. Read this following thread for summary of issue: http://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/getting_burned_a_warning_on_purchasing_baldurs_gate_outisde_of_gogcom
Fix and file can be found here (linked from TimeMage's first post): http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,28015.msg328907.html
If you plan to install Baldur's Gate and use the BG1Tutu mod you should have no problems doing so. Please refer to the Baldur's Gate Combined Installation.
Improvements
Modifications
Baldur's Gate Combined Installation
The combined installation provides the ideal Baldur's Gate experience by allowing one to play a single character through the entire Baldur's Gate franchise from beginning to end, with all recommended enhancements and modifications. The rest of this article is only useful if one is only planning to play just Baldur's Gate and/or Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast. If one intends to continue their play through to Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, then consulting the Baldur's Gate Combined Installation article is recommended.
Baldur's Gate Tutu
The 'Tutu' mod known as BG1Tutu allows the importing of Baldur's Gate files into the Baldur's Gate II engine. If using the mods Baldur's Gate Tutu or Baldur's Gate Trilogy please refer to the Baldur's Gate II system requirements.
Baldur's Gate II Fixpack
The BG2 Fixpack is a WeiDU compilation of fixes for Baldur's Gate II. Several modders began working on a new WeiDU fixpack to address the numerous bugs that have been identified. Fixpack currently includes all of the fixes addressed by Baldurdash (including the Game Text Update) and several hundred new bugfixes. The project is ongoing.
