Warnings
- The Origin service is being gradually deprecated in favor of the EA App. The store can only be accessed from both applications at this time (i.e. not through a browser), but not all games have been transferred to the latter. Information on this can change and become obsolete until the transition is complete.
EA App, formerly Origin, is a digital distribution platform operated by Electronic Arts.
It serves as the digital distribution platform and DRM mechanism for all currently supported Electronic Arts games. Activation keys (also known as product code) of games published by EA that are sold through third-party storefronts can be used to activate games on EA App.[2] For a time, EA App game activation keys sold on Humble Bundle were region-locked in Latin America for a limited time, but it had been since lifted.
To protect its users, EA App supports two-factor authentication via email and third-party authenticator app.[3]
Origin was launched on June 3, 2011. Origin was later superseded by EA App on October 7, 2022 for Windows, with Windows games published on Origin migrated to the EA App. EA App for Mac was released in March 2024, but Origin for Mac is still available for those running on macOS 10.14 and older.[4] [5]
