Discord is an instant messaging and VoIP social platform operated by Discord Inc., and was once a video game distribution platform.
Games purchased through Discord must be downloaded via the Discord client. To protect its users, Discord support two-factor authentication via a dedicated authenticator within the Discord mobile app.[1]
Discord was launched on May 13, 2015. In 2018, Discord introduced its own storefront that launched into beta on August 9[2] and was released to the public in October[3] the same year.
However, the lack of sales and people playing game forced Discord to scaled back the storefront to focus on the Nitro subscription service instead in March 2019, while also shifting the focus of buying and selling games to within developers' individual Discord servers.[4] Eventually, Discord removed the gaming service from the subscription service a couple of months later in October 2019, citing feedback and a lack of use from users.[5] Despite this, users can still bought games within developers' individual servers on the platform.
Discord would later remove the ability to purchase new games in Q1 2022.
