Essential improvements
Patches
The official patch 1.04 can be downloaded from Star Wars Support for the Windows version, or from Aspyr for the OS X version (patch currently in beta).
It is included in the Steam and Mac App Store versions, and is required in order to run the OS X version on modern Macs.
Demo and exclusive level
A demo was released for both Windows and OS X. The OS X demo does not run on recent systems; the retail game does, if you install the patch.
The demo features an exclusive level, "Mission at Alzoc III", that is not included in the PC version of the main game (it was included in the console versions as an unlockable).
Enabling full dismemberment
It is possible to enable full dismemberment in Jedi Outcast without mods. This can be done in 2 ways; either by entering cheats into the developer console every time the game is launched, or by editing the game's jk2config.cfg file and creating your own autoexec.cfg file just once to enable it fully. I will describe both below.
Via the in-game console
- Launch the game and begin to play a mission.
- Open the developer console by holding <SHIFT> and pressing the <~> key (Or the <`> key if you're using a UK layout keyboard).
- Type "helpusobi 1" (without the quotation marks) into the console and press <ENTER>.
- Now type "g_saberrealisticcombat 3", "g_dismemberment 3" and "g_dismemberProbabilities 3".
- Done! Now just walking up to someone and touching them with the saber should cut bits off.
- These variables can be set lower than 3 (I.E: 0, 1, 2 or 3), depending on how often you want dismemberment to happen and the degree of dismemberment you want.
Via the .cfg files - Recommended!
- Navigate to the base folder in the game's directory (C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Jedi Outcast/GameData/base).
- Open the "jk2config.cfg" file with your preferred text editor (Notepad++/Wordpad/etc.).
- Find the line "seta g_saberRealisticCombat "x"".
- Change the number on this variable to "3" ("seta g_saberRealisticCombat "3"").
- Now find the lines "seta g_dismemberment "x"" and "seta g_dismemberProbabilities "x"".
- Change the numbers on these lines to "3" ("seta g_dismemberment "3"" and "seta g_dismemberProbabilities "3"").
- Save and close the jk2config.cfg file.
- In the same directory, create a .cfg file called "autoexec.cfg" (This file MUST be called autoexec).
- Open the file and add these 2 lines "seta g_saberRealisticCombat "1"" and "helpusobi 1".
- Save and close the "autoexec.cfg" file.
- Dismemberment is now permanently enabled.
Crosshair
The game features a form of auto-aiming crosshair by default. To disable this and get a more traditional crosshair in singleplayer, open the console with Shift+~ and type cg_dynamicCrosshair "0"
Note that this temporarily removes the colored crosshair functionality as well as the entire crosshair in 3rd person mode.
