- 14:51, 22 March 2023 diff hist 0 Red Faction →Digital: Minor wording clarifications and standardizations. Also removed piece about the tables.vpp file being translated because it isn't relevant to the issue, and could actually downplay the severity of the issue in the minds of some - the important part is noting that the edited file totally breaks multiplayer (and that a proper fix is available), not so much how it was broken. Also clarified the last part to be clear that you need to download the pack regardless how you fix the issue.
- 11:43, 22 March 2023 diff hist 0 m Red Faction →"At least 8 MB of available video memory is required" error: Minor fix, 8GB->8MB
- 19:13, 20 March 2023 diff hist -379 Red Faction →Version differences: Streamlined this section a bit, removing unnecessary info and more clearly highlighting the inevitable issues players will encounter if they choose to suffer through this version. Prior version severely lacked emphasis on key points. I'm still not a fan of how the fixboxes look (they falsely imply to the reader that they are required steps for all versions, not just the German GOG version), but I haven't figured out how to best present that information yet.
- 18:57, 20 March 2023 diff hist +40 Red Faction →Essential improvements: It was mentioned to me by a friend that this section wasn't clearly communicating that you don't have to go through both listed fixes (installer and manual). I think this is a good way to resolve that, but I'm not totally sure "recommended" and "alternative" are the right terms to use. Collapsed the manual install by default as well, to draw even more attention to the fact that you only need to do one or the other (if you click to expand, you know what you're doing)
- 14:03, 20 March 2023 diff hist -8 m Red Faction →Dash Faction: "You can" is unnecessary.
- 03:55, 20 March 2023 diff hist +6 Red Faction →N-Gage Map Ports: Slight wording change - previous wording implied that installing the N-Gage remake campaign would also install these maps (playable in the base game), which isn't correct. The remake campaign mod includes them, but you still have to download this pack to play them without that mod loaded.
- 19:19, 19 March 2023 diff hist +255 Red Faction →Essential improvements: Clarified some text - we refer to GoG/Steam collectively as "digital versions" above, should here as well. Also added equivalent instructions to ensure digital versions are prepared as needed for the manual Dash installation, the same as we were already stating for retail.
- 19:04, 19 March 2023 diff hist +24 Red Faction →Patches: Slight clarification to this section - it is true that one of the issues introduced by v1.21 is the crash when the notification popup appears in the middle of the screen, but this is not the only issue it introduces.
- 15:39, 13 January 2023 diff hist +82 Red Faction II →Audio: Russian translation is bootleg
- 19:04, 9 January 2023 diff hist -19 Red Faction →Dash Faction: Removed some more unnecessary words to condense (and cut out another line break, woo!)
- 19:02, 9 January 2023 diff hist -168 Red Faction →Dash Faction: Wording updates - condensing text by removing unnecessary words (and duplication of info within the page). Also clarified the Steam instructions by specifying that the path to the DashFactionLauncher executable is what you need to use.
- 18:38, 9 January 2023 diff hist -15 Red Faction →Essential improvements: Condensed wording (woohoo, fits on 1 line!)
- 18:31, 9 January 2023 diff hist -220 Red Faction →Dash Faction: Removed unnecessary text from dash faction section, added condensed version in automated setup fixbox (which is where it applies)
- 18:23, 9 January 2023 diff hist +58 Red Faction →Essential improvements: Condensed some text, added manual install download mirror, and matched text for manual install heading with automated install heading.
- 15:17, 9 January 2023 diff hist +190 Red Faction →Dash Faction: I understand why the steps were removed - the process is extremely straightforward. Still though, the potential does exist for some to have questions (especially with the "detected version isn't directly supported" prompt), so linking to the RF wiki installation guide in case a user runs into trouble I think makes sense, rather than leaving them confused. I've revised the RF wiki guide to effectively match the steps as they previously appeared on PCGW.
- 05:26, 4 January 2023 diff hist +118 Red Faction →Audio: Added section on royalty free audio (content ID for Dan Wentz's music)
- 05:22, 4 January 2023 diff hist +64 Red Faction →Audio: Revamped audio section a bit. Technically subtitles are present for radio messages (always on, in fact), so "false" wasn't accurate. "Limited" is the closest I've found in the available options, hopefully the included note says everything it needs to. Also edited the volume controls item a bit to be more clear on base game functionality rather than only describing functionality when Dash is installed.
- 05:02, 4 January 2023 diff hist +4 m Red Faction →Dash Faction: In what may be the most unimportant edit ever made... I added a missing "the". Woohoo.
- 04:59, 4 January 2023 diff hist +249 Red Faction →Network: Added 18444 UDP (used for master server registration) and clarified Dash client networking behaviour. This is a hard concept to explain in a way that isn't overly technical, and even this explanation doesn't cover all aspects of it in this case (technically you could use -port on a client as well for example), but I think the current wording covers all information that would be relevant for 99.99% of players, without being unapproachable to consume.
- 22:03, 3 January 2023 diff hist -3 Red Faction →Submarine explodes when it hits water in L5S3: Slight edit - technically the explosion doesn't happen when it hits the water, it happens immediately when it's detached from the crane. Very minor, but just wanted the text to be correct. Also removed reference to level filename (almost definitely won't be recognizable by anyone except RF mod devs, and geothermal plant is already referenced in the note)
- 20:46, 3 January 2023 diff hist +142 Red Faction →Network: Removed TCP port (the RF client/server uses UDP only). Added additional context on UDP port, including how to override default.
- 18:57, 2 January 2023 diff hist +23 Red Faction →Version differences: Slight edit - most EB Games stored operated under the label "Electronics Boutique" at the time they sold the retail copy that contained this exclusive map. I kept EB Games in parentheses because this game was sold during the time they were migrating from their old name to the EB Games brand, so stores selling this copy of the retail release may have used either name.
- 16:18, 2 January 2023 diff hist +280 Red Faction II Undo revision 1359039 by Robot enthusiast (talk) Reverting - stretched doesn't count as widescreen or 4k support. Tag: Undo
- 01:48, 2 January 2023 diff hist +167 Red Faction →Field of view (FOV): Added additional information on displaying current FOV and restoring default behaviour after having changed it.
- 22:28, 1 January 2023 diff hist -1,382 Red Faction →Demos: Consolidation as suggested by Aemony
- 21:55, 1 January 2023 diff hist -128 Red Faction →Demos: Removed unnecessary text by moving download links to titles (suggested by mrtnptrs)
- 21:25, 1 January 2023 diff hist +1,243 Red Faction →Digital: Expanding list of differences in German GOG version
- 20:49, 1 January 2023 diff hist +175 Red Faction →Audio: Noting how broken the German GOG.com version is - seriously, no one should ever use this thing, wow. I'll expand the Version Differences section as well to add further context
- 19:46, 1 January 2023 diff hist -4 Red Faction →Essential improvements: removing unnecessary "the"
- 19:29, 1 January 2023 diff hist +166 Red Faction →Audio: Updating localization pack links - the French and German conversion packs that were previously linked were both incomplete, and in the case of the German one, required a user to overwrite core game files unnecessarily. New links are to complete and fully functional translation packs with translated instructions. Also fixed some text to make it more clear.
- 15:35, 1 January 2023 diff hist +39 Red Faction →Essential improvements: Updating patches section to indicate that while 1.21 does resolve a (very) small amount of compatibility issues, it also introduces some brand new bugs (at least 2 that we know of).
- 15:27, 1 January 2023 diff hist 0 Red Faction →Dash Faction: Replacing direct download link with link to information page (with download button). Information page has feature list, reviews, etc. so is a better landing page. The URL I used is always updated to redirect to the download page for the latest version released, so the page won't need to be edited each time.
- 17:37, 31 December 2022 diff hist +226 Red Faction →Availability: Restored download links to demo SP maps.
- 17:30, 31 December 2022 diff hist +85 Red Faction →Version differences: Restored line about Russian bootleg copies that was removed by MyStyle (probably accidentally)
- 17:27, 31 December 2022 diff hist +40 Red Faction →Game crashes when picking up items or entering cheat codes: Added high resolution info.
- 17:26, 31 December 2022 diff hist -63 Red Faction →At least 8 MB of video memory is required error: Clarified this section. Fixbox gives the fix for retail versions and text already states that it happens when launching the retail version, so mentioning that it doesn't happen with the digital version is redundant and potentially confusing.
- 17:19, 31 December 2022 diff hist +286 Red Faction →Issues fixed
- 16:59, 31 December 2022 diff hist +83 Red Faction →Version differences
- 16:51, 31 December 2022 diff hist +3,737 Red Faction →Other information: Added first revision of version differences and demos section.
- 15:49, 31 December 2022 diff hist +236 Red Faction →Dash Faction: Just realized these options were listed in the wrong order and the prompt string was incorrect - the prompt appears when you attempt to launch game with the path set to an unsupported executable, not immediately when launching the launcher. Also added instructions specific to retail installs. Previously, a retail disc user who hadn't yet installed v1.20 would be breaking their ability to play multiplayer by following the instructions as written. This is fixed now.
- 15:14, 31 December 2022 diff hist +421 Red Faction →Dash Faction: Added some additional context surrounding support for Steam functions, and made a note of the features that will be unavailable if using the manual install method. The way it was presented prior, I felt a reasonable person may not realize they'd be losing out on features if using the manual installation method. With this info indicated, they can make an informed choice and know the impact of the decision.
- 14:52, 31 December 2022 diff hist +20 Red Faction →Essential improvements: Moved and slightly edited compatibility note to avoid confusion with the "only compatible with NA RF v1.20" piece.
- 14:50, 31 December 2022 diff hist -557 Red Faction →Essential improvements: Removing official patches section because while the information is completely correct, it isn't an essential improvement, and isn't particularly useful to a player. v1.21 comes stock (no install required) for digital releases, and v1.20 solves effectively none of the issues a player will encounter with the v1.00 release. Dash Faction is needed in both cases, so I feel it's confusing to list the official patches under Essential Improvements - should just be Dash.
