Issue Fix
The frame rate can be very low with AMD and Crossfire enabled. Disable Crossfire
Surround Sound speaker option is greyed out / not selectable Confirm Windows sound settings are correctly configured for 5.1/7.1

If this does not fix issue attempt below:

  • Run these installers and reboot the computer afterward:

When starting up the game, the menu loads fine. But once the intro movie reaches Caldera, the screen becomes mostly black

ATI Video Card User's Only

  • In the Catalyst Control Center, change the "Texture Filtering Quality" to High Quality
  • Set anti-aliasing AA in catalyst to use application settings and turn on vsync; then in the game, turn off AA and keep vsync
The game does not start. The screen remains black except for an "Frequency out of range" error message
  • Parameters may be incorrect in the ConfigUser.xml file
In the section <Window>, you should verify that the values are correct:

  • Option 2 - You can also try to rename the ConfigUser.xml file (the next time you restart the game, it will recreate a default configuration file)
Dropping FPS with nvidia graphic cards

Uninstall your graphic driver
Reboot the system
Re-install the most up-to-date driver. However, while doing so, make sure to select "Custom Installation" and choose to not install the "3D Vision" component

If the "water reflection" is enabled, the frame rate significantly decreases De-activate water reflection

Widescreen Resolution

  • Edit the file %AppData%\Local\Risen2\Config\ConfigUser.xml, in section <Window> as follows

Change VirtalWidth and VirtalHeight to match your current resolution

Windowed
