Fixes

Though we recommend leaving the executable settings in the same condition as when installed, you can add a special 'switch' to your Messiah icons.

Put the cursor on the version of Messiah you run... ('Play Messiah D3D or Play Messiah 3DFX")

Next, right click on the icon and then click 'Properties'.

On the line titled "Target," add the switch desired at the end of the line. An example a line with the "-s and -o" switch enabled would read something like:

“C:\Program Files\Messiah\MessiahD3D.exe” –v -o

Note: MAKE SURE THE -v and -o are OUTSIDE the quotation marks.

Click OK.

Now run the game using the icon you modified.

More than one switch can be added to the executable line in combinations to affect system performance.

Common switches:

-i Skip intro logos -s Disable sound -o Disable Fog -p Windows control color -v Disable mip-mapping +! For Windows 2000 +T Enables verbose debug information for sound cards.

Fix slowdown and 32bit color

In modern GPUs the game has severe slowdown issues and is locked to 16bit color only support. This can be addressed by the game itself, but it requires either a custom shortcut or running the game from the command line. The steps are simple:

  1. Run the game with the -x argument, like MessiahD3D.exe -x (or create a shortcut to MessiahD3D.exe with the -x argument added)
  2. Select one of the available resolutions and press Ok. Another resolution selecting window will appear.
  3. Leave the graphics card option as is
  4. Select Direct3D HAL (do not select Direct3D T&L HAL - this will cause slowdowns!)
  5. From the third option scroll to find the resolution you picked in the first window (widescreen modes do not seem to work). Make sure it says "x 32" at the right side (which means 32bit color), otherwise you will get nasty color banding since modern GPUs lack dithering support for 16bit modes
  6. Press Run game

There is a problem, however. The videos do not play properly in 32bit mode. However they are only the logo, intro and ending so you may want to run the game in 16bit mode to see these and use 32bit when playing.
