Issues and Fixes
No Cursor In EULA And Menu Buttons Launch Issues
From the game launcher, select the Small Gear button that opens the Options menu at the top and select the 'Troubleshooting and Diagnostics' button. Hit the "Validate / Repair" Button on the bottom left.
It takes a few minutes to validate the files and then (if you are experiencing this issue) re-download them.
If this does not fix the issue, use the diagnostic and support utility to send Hi-Rez studios the log files from your Tribes: Ascend patcher. More information
Patcher Client Error "Decompression Timed Out"
After downloading the game or updates via the Hi-Rez Studio's patcher, it may freeze or move excruciatingly slowly during the decompression stage, eventually resulting in the error message "Decompression Timed Out". This is often due to an anti-virus program attempting to scan the files while they are being decompressed. Disabling your virus scanner may solve this issue.
If disabling your anti-virus does not solve this issue, the uncompressed files can be downloaded directly by opening up the options menu, selecting the "Troubleshooting and Diagnostics" button and hitting the "Validate/Repair" button.
Error Message:"Failed to start the Hi-Rez Studios Authenticate And Update Service"
Open Hi Rez Diagnostics and Support from the Start menu as an administrator, click "Restart Service". If that fails, delete the "C:\ProgramData\Hi-Rez Studios" folder and reinstall.
Error Message:"Cannot find the Hi-Rez installation" (Steam)
0) Uninstall non-Steam T:A (you may want to delete manually all remaining files ; killing a Hirez-related Windows service will be necessary. Windows will tell you)
1) Go to \Steam\SteamApps\common\tribes\Binaries\Redist
2) Launch InstallHirezService.exe
2b) (If it displays something about updating, agree and launch it again.)
3) If it displays something about uninstalling something, agree.
4) Launch Tribes Ascend from your Steam library.
5) Prerequisites install properly, game starts.
WARNING: There have been instances of Visual C++/.NET framework libraries being somehow affected by this.[1]
Stuttering
Disable PhysX (switch it to CPU) in the Nvidia control panel.[2]
Chat Issues
As of the game's release, players will often times be unable to send a chat message. While you can bring up the chat box and type the message, pressing enter will sometimes do nothing. This can be fixed by restarting the game.
Physics Glitches
Tribes: Ascend features a number of physics issues that will sometimes propel the player at high speeds when they hit certain objects at high speeds. One example of this is the flag stand on Raindance, which can throw the player into the air, sometimes hitting the invisible ceiling. This has been an issue since at least beta; likely alpha as well.
Extreme Stuttering even in the UI
If you have the DirectX SDK installed (usually only developers), ensure that the 32-bit DirectX Control Panel (i.e. the DirectX Control Panel without "64-bit" in the title) is set to the Retail Version of DirectX 9. Find the DirectX Control Panel in the Start Menu, under Programs. On Vista or Windows 7, just type "DirectX" into the search.
Improvements
User c0mad0r has a detailed explanation for Graphics Configuration using the tribes.ini file[1], to get the most out of the Unreal engine. This guide has detailed explanations, but the suggested settings generally favor performance over visual effects.
Borderless Fullscreen Windowed
The game supports fullscreen windowed mode natively. From the main menu, choose:
Settings > Video > Screen Type > Borderless
Resolution
Native Vert- support. You can force your resolution, if not available in the game menu, by editing tribes.ini at C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\Tribes Ascend\TribesGame\Config, i.e. 1680x1050 set :
ResX=1680 ResY=1050
Field Of View
The game supports changing the field of view from within the game. The FOV can be changed from Settings > Gameplay > FOV. Possible values are between 60 and 120. Screenshots below demonstrate the change these values make
FOV 60 | FOV 120 |
---|---|
Unresolved Issues
Stuck on map loading.[3]
