Key points

The Windows version has issues on modern systems. The DOS version (on the same CD or sold separately) works perfectly in DOSBox.
Requires the CD to uninstall the game.

Issues unresolved

Tutorial in Windows version doesn't work

Under Windows 7 64-bit, the tutorial window appears but nothing else. Any user input will show a dialog box saying the tutorial was completed.

Issues fixed

Running from the hard drive only

To install the game fully under DosBox, first do a full install. Then copy the contents of the CD to a new folder. For example, if the game is installed to c:\games\alife, copy the cd contents to c:\games\alife\cd. Next, edit the afterdos.ini file to point the CD Path to that folder.

This works the same for Windows, except the file to edit is alife.ini.
