In 2009, Lucasarts released The Secret of Monkey Island in a special edition version of the game. This version of the game is already fully compatible with new systems and no changes need to made to get the game to work. The new version includes, improved graphics, music, voice-over work and a hot swap feature to switch between special edition and classic modes.

However the original music and voice over of the CD-ROM version was not included in the special edition when in classic mode.
