Issues fixed[edit]

Game crashes when map is loaded[edit]

The hardware renderer the game uses by default may crash upon loading maps on modern GPUs or Windows versions XP or higher.
Enable software renderer[7]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>.
  2. Open Tropico2.ini
  3. Find the line containing SoftwareDevice=0.
  4. Change the line you found to read SoftwareDevice=1.
  5. Save and close the file.
Use dgVoodoo2[7]
  1. Download dgVoodoo2.
  2. Open the ZIP file downloaded and copy DDraw.dll and D3Dlmm.dll from the MS folder.
  3. Paste the file into <path-to-game>.

Notes

Requires a GPU capable of DirectX 10.1 or higher and Windows Vista (patched with the DirectX 11 Platform Update) or higher.

Notes

  1. SafeDisc retail DRM does not work on Windows 10[1] and is disabled by default on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 when the KB3086255 update is installed.[2]
  2. This version of StarForce DRM does not work on Windows Vista or later.[3][4][5][6] For supported versions of Windows the StarForce driver may need to be updated manually using SFUPDATE.
  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/33520/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (33520) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
