Patches

The latest official patch is 3.0, which comes in a regular version and one with the Darien Crusades add-on.

Unofficial patches

The unofficial patch used in digital releases is 4.0BB, available here and changelog here. It enables more than 500 units to be present on a map, allows more than one AI per person in mutliplayer games, and allows the Creon faction in multiplayer connections via DirectPlay.
The latest unofficial patch is 4.1BB, available here and changelog here. It enables sound for hosts in multiplayer, disables command line arguments, increases player limit to 8 in multiplayer, and no longer uses the ironplague.icd file as its functionality was backported to kingdoms.icd.

Direct3D mode issues

Menus are not animated
Intro audio is played, but video shows as black.
Software rendering mode has neither issue, and supports widescreen natively like Direct3D does with little visual difference.
