In-game Vsync capping to 55 FPS

Just tested this and it's true. With in-game vsync enabled the game is "stuck" at 53-55 FPS where as disabling it it goes to 60 FPS and above easily.
EDIT: Forcing it externally works and has proper 60 FPS lock.

Holy dafaq?

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

I wish it was joke. Guess that explains why I never had smooth 60 FPS even indoors.

Afaik this game is really cpu-limited (and unfortunately when you look for benchmarks, people are either running with low settings or with uber hardware, not both)

anyway, did you check CPU/GPU usage with that?

This kind of behavior was introduced in 1.0.7.0 in theory. Funny stories around that too

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

I didn't, but as you said it's heavily CPU dependant as the upgrade from 580 to 980 did barely anything for that game while GTAV benefits hugely.

From what I've gathered the game runs surprisingly well on Nvidia hardware but struggles on AMD hardware. My R9 290 absolutely tanks when it plays this game and I get about 40fps on low settings, while I get 60fps on High-Ultra on GTAV. My CPU is an i7 4770K so I don't really think my CPU is a big issue.

Wtf?

With lowest setting it should also be possible to reach 80 FPS on a crappy GPU

With your you should get a hell of a framerate (ok, it's not the same here, but I hope you get the idea)

Assuming you have last drivers for everything, as always.. perhaps command line parameters may help you

After you solved this.. I'd be curious to know your results in benchmark with low settings and cpu usage for every core (like here) (and why not? overclocked)

I haven't tried the game in around a year, maybe I did something wrong? I'll try again today maybe.

I sort gave up haha... GTA IV just wouldn't launch in Steam so I just uninstalled it. Probably something to do with GFWL, why doesn't Rockstar get rid of that like Dirt 3 and BioShock 2?

I mean.. because calling a game heavy is a thing (CPU usage may not be 100%, but at least one core may still be bottlenecking)

But to really call it shit, 100% pure monkey-level coded, you should see whether that's not even the case.

I guess even with Rockstar's patches the game is still poorly optimised.
