Essential improvements

Fix garbled text

Starting the game normally will display garbled text and make most text unreadable.
Install Locale Emulator[citation needed]
  • Install the Locale Emulator, which can be downloaded from here
  • Right-click tod2.exe and choose Run in Japanese.

Notes

For Windows XP to Windows 8.1, using Microsoft's AppLocale may also fix this problem (unconfirmed)

Issues unresolved

Symbols and punctuation

The game registers symbol and punctuation input differently than usual, making certain sections of the game extremely difficult if one does not know which key corresponds to the right symbol.

On Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600, using the "English (United States) Swiss French" layout

Exclamation point: Shift+1
Question mark: Shift+underscore key (- and _)
Dash: ^/tilde/` key

Issues fixed

Can't make new save files under "Game Start"

When attempting to make a save file for the main game mode, the player is unable to give the save file a name.
Use Japanese IME[citation needed]
  • Go to Control Panel > Clock, Language and Region > Change input methods
  • Choose Add a language and install the Japanese input method.
  • Switch your keyboard layout to the Japanese IME.
  • Right-click the new taskbar icon that appears, and switch to Full-width Alphanumeric.
  • Make sure to run the game with the Locale Emulator/AppLocale.
  • Choose Game Start, and pick an empty save file. You should now be able to give the file a name.
  • You can switch back to your preferred keyboard layout after you create the save file.

Notes

Upon entering the name of the save file, the first letter will be cut off - this only happens once, and the name entry will work fine afterwards.
