I do not know why people in wrote this in this article and in the Steam forums. The official answer on the developer's Zendesk is that it does not require an internet connection to play, and I also just tested it - it is true. This should be obvious considering there is going to be a GoG release.

This is a really important improvement...
It was removed in this edit, the reasoning being that the commands doesn't do squat since they're (Gold)Source command line arguments (and older ones at that) and have no equivalent in CryEngine. Basically snake oil and placebo. And I am inclined to agree on that part, as I can't find any actual confirmation that the game supposedly supports those Source-based command line arguments.
A note to anyone trying to find out how to skip the intro videos - you cannot, because even if you disable/remove/rename the files, the game needs all that time to load.
This means you will just see a black screen for the same amount of time instead.
