So, I downloaded Cave Story+ on Epic Games and when I try opening it just says that either msvcp140.dll or vcruntime140.dll are missing, And when I downloaded both in dll-files.com, it says that it still can't open correctly and it closes it. What can I do?
Talk:Cave Story+
Remove the DLL file(s) you downloaded, then (re)install or repair Visual C++ Redistributable.

It's probably "Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019" you're after but you might as well do the same for 2013, 2012, and 2010.
Then after doing that I install the game again?
You probably don't need to reinstall the game at all.
I did what you said and it still doesn't work :/
So I'll try reinstalling the game now lol
"The app can't open correctly (0xc000007b), Click OK to close the app" So basically, it didn't work lol
NEVERMIND IT WORKED :D
Under the "Configuration file and save game data location" section, there is a note that says
- The Steam and DRM-free save games are not compatible. (On Windows they definitely are compatible)
This statement seems to contradict itself. Could someone with both copies of the game clear this up?
After posting this, I remembered I actually own the DRM-free version from the Humble Indie Bundle 4. Here is my testing:
- I created a fresh profile in the Steam version on Windows 7.
- I copied this to the DRM-free version on Windows. It worked.
- I fired up a VM of Ubuntu 12.04.
- I copied the same profile to Linux. The Steam and DRM-free versions share the same save location on Linux.
- It worked with the DRM-free version on Linux, but not with the Steam version which claimed the save was corrupt.
I don't have a Mac to test this with, but I'll assume it is similar to the Linux situation. It seems the note on the wiki is accurate, but worded poorly. I will clarify it.
Couldn't we just say that Windows save games are not cross platform?
No, he clearly said that it worked on Linux, but not on the Steam version of Linux.
Oh, damn me.
Anyway, I would actually like to know what the "differences" consist, if possible.
I mean, sometimes it's just like batman arkham asylum where you only have to hex edit a couple of bits.
I imagine it is, but I have no idea how one would go about finding the differences. It's also a mystery to me as to why there's a difference between the saves at all.
Try to open them with a hex editor.
Sometimes even a novice can figure out the difference.
