Issues fixed[edit]

Graphics/colors problem[edit]

Graphics problems without wrapper
Graphics problems without wrapper
Depending of your video card you could have some graphical problem ingame. A graphic wrapper can fix this problem. The wrapper can also improved the graphics of the game by forcing a superior resolution, AA that is not possible though ini.
Use dgVoodoo[citation needed]
  1. Download dgVoodoo.
  2. Copy the 3 dll's from the MS folder to the game installation folder. For convenience you can also copy dgVoodooSetup.exe but it's optional.
  3. Launch the dgVoodooSetup.exe and verify the "config folder/ running instance" is showing the location of the dgVoodooSetup.exe, config file will be created there.
  4. In the DirectX tab, choose an TI4400 or a Radeon 8500 videocard and max VRAM.
  5. Optional : Modify the resolution(max 4/3 resolution, like 1440*1080 for a 16/9 screen), AA, and other texturing settings to your convenience.
  6. Be sure in the general tab that "Keep window aspect ratio" is checked to avoid stretched video effect.
  7. Apply any changes, you can exit the configuration application and launch the game. If you have "dgvoodoo Watermark" selected in DirectX tab you will be able to easily verify that the wrapper is running. After that it can be deselected to remove the watermark from the game.

To remove dgVoodoo from the game just delete the DLLs which were copied in the second step.

Creative Alchemy Wrapper not working[edit]

By default the DSOUND.dll of the creative alchemy wrapper is ignored by the game. So no surround sound or EAX can be selected.
Hex edit MSS32.dll[citation needed]
  1. Open MSS32.DLL with a hex editor such as HxD.
  2. Search for value DSOUND.DLL inside it.
  3. Change DSOUND.DLL value to ESOUND.DLL.
  4. Save the changes.
  5. Rename the DSOUND.DLL of the ALchemy Wrapper inside the installation folder to ESOUND.DLL.

The game should now use the ESOUND.dll (instead of the native Windows DSOUND.DLL). EAX and Surround sound should be now available and can be activated. No log will be created by the alchemy wrapper due to the renaming.

Random crash on modern operating systems[edit]

The game could on some configuration have some random crash, this issue can be fixed by forcing the game to use only one CPU core.
Not need if you already use the unofficial patch below that fixes the medal case crash problem, it also force the game to run on one core.
Use ImageCFG[citation needed]
  1. Download ImageCFG.
  2. Then launch the following command though the command interpreter (cmd.Exe).
imagecfg -u <path-to-game>\lancer.exe
imagecfg -u <path-to-game>\lancer.icd
imagecfg -a <path-to-game>\lancer.exe
imagecfg -a <path-to-game>\lancer.icd

3. After that exe file and ICD file of the game has been modified to force the game to use only one CPU Core.

No Launch on Windows 10[edit]

This problem is due to the SafeDisc DRM that is not support any more in Windows 10. Two solutions exist.
Use a NO-CD to launch the game on Windows 10[citation needed]
Use an unSafeDisc tool to remove SafeDisc DRM from your version of the game[citation needed]

Game crash when closing the medal case[edit]

This game crashes when you want to close the medal case on modern windows OS, a patch exists to fix this problem.
This fix also forces the game to run on one core, so no need to use the imagecfg after that.
Use unofficial patch[citation needed]
  1. Download StarLancer Crash Fix.
  2. Install the Application Compatibility Database with the batch included in this file.
  3. Do not use any compatibility mode on the Game exe after that.
  4. The medal case should now be usable without any crash of the game.
