The 1.0.0.6 Update fixes the save problem with the book options, provides some DirectSound workarounds, and addresses some intermittent crashes. The patch is already included in the GOG and Steam version.

Two buttons on your keyboard allow you to change perspective when the eye appears in the bottom left of the screen. On English keyboards, this is [ and ]. On German keyboards, it's ß and ´.
Holding the CTRL key enables the alternate actions, e.g. sprinting instead of walking and only doing a single attack instead of all at once.

It is highly recommended that you read the manual to find these and other options, since they are not explained in-game.

Issues fixed

Game not starting

If the game fails to start, try one of the solutions in this thread (check all thread pages).

Large fonts

Some in-game text, mainly during combat (the top bar and the HP when hovering over your party), may be excessively-large due to the game's fonts using Windows' font scaling.

Deactivate display scaling[3]
  1. Open Windows' display settings (e.g. right-click on desktop -> display settings).
  2. Either set your resolution to one that comes with 100% default scaling (like 1920x1080), or put the scaling value manually to 100%.
  3. Then launch the game.

Notes: Seems to only be a problem in the GOG version.

Standard executable is RtK.exe. GOG version precedes this with launcher.exe, which in turn calls RtK.exe. GOG version can also be launched directly from RtK.exe, but this makes texts harder to read (very noticable on spell descriptions).

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/564960/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (564960) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
