Essential improvements

Patches

Patch v20000 is the latest version. Digital distribution versions are already patched.

Increase system memory for game

.ini file[3]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open MobileForces.ini.
  3. Find the line CacheSizeMegs and set it to much higher value.
  4. Save your changes.

60 FPS
120+ FPS
No frame rate cap. Game can be played at up to 200 FPS with no issues. However, further exceeding 200 FPS causes the game to speed up and at 300 or 500+ FPS the game becomes inhumanly fast. See frame rate capping.
High dynamic range display (HDR)

Field of view (FOV)

To maintain identical vertical FOV to the 4:3 FOV at 16:9 resolutions, use 106. At 21:9 resolutions, use 121.
Changing FOV causes various bugs and glitches, most notably making the player's movement extremely slow, rendering it unplayable.
.ini file[4]
  1. Go to the save game data location.
  2. Open Profile00.ini.
  3. Find the line DesiredFOV, change the value to the preferred FOV, also change DefaultFOV to the same value as above.
  4. Save and exit the text editor.
Try it ingame[5]
  1. Press Tab whilst loaded into a map and not in a menu.
  2. Input fov X where X is the preferred FOV.
  3. Press Enter. It should now be modified.

Vertical sync (Vsync)

Edit ini file[6]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open MobileForces.ini.
  3. Add the line UseVSync=True under the [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] section.

Audio optimization

.ini file[4]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open MobileForces.ini.
  3. Find the line [Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem].
  4. Change the value of OutputRate to your audio output rate, Windows defaults to 44100. Doing this wrong may cause the audio to sound weird.
  5. Change the value of EffectsChannels to 32.
  6. Change the value of Latency to 45, keep increasing the value if the cracking in the audio doesn't stop. I set mine to 60.
  7. Save your changes.

Crash when starting

  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open MobileForces.ini.
  3. Find UseDirectSound and change the value to False.
  4. Save your changes.

The game physics run uncapped, and in-game actions play out in fast-forward.

Enable VSync
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open MobileForces.ini.
  3. Find the line [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice].
  4. Add an entry for UseVSync=True in the block below.

Notes

  1. SafeDisc retail DRM does not work on Windows 10[1] or Windows 11 and is disabled by default on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 when the KB3086255 update is installed.[2]
  2. 2.0 2.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/837940/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (837940) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
