Maneater is a singleplayer action RPG where the player controls a shark through an open world (based on the Gulf Coast of the United States).[3] Maneater is developed and published by Tripwire Interactive and uses Unreal Engine 4 and Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM.[1]

Originally conceived as an expansion pack for the competitive multiplayer game Depth,[4] Maneater was initially developed by Blindside Interactive and was set to be published by Tripwire.[5] It was eventually wholly acquired by Tripwire, who continued developing it in-house with support from Blindside and other partners.[6] Maneater was announced on June 11, 2018 by Tripwire's publishing division.[7]

The game was released on Epic Games Store on May 22, 2020. The PC version was exclusive to the Epic Games Launcher for one year after release.

As of May 23, 2020, Tripwire is investigating an issue causing some players to lose progress in the game.[8]

Every time the Main Menu is accessed, the FPS is automatically capped to 60. Changing any Video setting while in-game and while having Vsync disabled, removes the FPS cap.

Planned for PC version[14]. Console version has ray-traced reflections and refractions[15].

Anti-aliasing (AA)

Enable super-sampling through the config file[16]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Engine.ini in a text editor.
  3. Add the following lines:

Unable to 100% "Queen of the Ocean", landmarks not counting toward completion

Tripwire is investigating this issue as of May 2020.[21]

Controller not recognised in Epic games version

DualShock and DualSense controllers are not recognised, even when DS4Windows is loaded and working for other games.

1. Make sure that Epic games is closed from the system tray. 2. Add Epic games launcher as a non-steam game to your steam library (not the game .exe). 3. Launch the Epic games launcher from within Steam, then launch the game from within Epic. This seems to work with or without DS4Windows loaded in the background.[22]
