Day of the Tentacle Remastered is a singleplayer adventure game in the Maniac Mansion series.

Key points

Audio clipping/crackling/stuttering on Windows 10

Setting the game to Windows 8 compatibility mode may alleviate some of the audio issues.
Set Windows 8 Compatibility mode[1]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>
  2. To set the compatibility mode, right click Dott.exe and select "Properties".
  3. Go to the compatibility tab and select "Windows 8" from the drop down list.
Use the --DisableFMODDSP parameter[1]

Run classic mode in ScummVM

Use DOTT reMONSTERed and DoubleFine Explorer[3]
These extraction instructions are for Windows only, but the extracted game files can be played on any operating system or console supported by ScummVM.
These instructions use the remastered voices and sound effects by default. See Step 8 to use the audio from the original game.
  1. Download DOTT_reMONSTERed-Windows.zip v1.12.1 or later and extract the contents to <path-to-game>\.
  2. Run <path-to-game>\remonster.exe to generate monster.so3, tentacle.000, and tentacle.001.
  3. Download DoubleFineExplorer*.zip and extract the contents to any directory.
  4. Run DoubleFine_Explorer.exe.
  5. Select OpenDay of the Tentacle Remastered<path-to-game>\tenta.cle.
  6. Select Viewlfl to hide all files except for Maniac Mansion files.
  7. Select Save All FilesSave all visible files (raw dump)<path-to-game>\ to extract Maniac Mansion files to <path-to-game>\maniac\.
  8. (Optional) To use the voices and sound effects from the original Day of the Tentacle instead of the remaster:
    1. In DoubleFine Explorer, select Viewsou to hide all files except for monster.sou.
    2. Select classic/en/monster.sou, then choose Save FileAs is (raw dump)<path-to-game>\.
    3. Delete the remastered audio file <path-to-game>\monster.so3.
  9. (Optional) Move monster.so*, tentacle.000, tentacle.001, and maniac\ to their own directory.
  10. Choose Add Game in ScummVM and navigate to <path-to-game>\ or the newly chosen directory to add Day of the Tentacle.
  11. Choose Add Game in ScummVM and navigate to <path-to-game>\maniac\ or the corresponding directory for Maniac Mansion. (This is required to access Maniac Mansion from Weird Ed's computer in-game.)[4]
  12. (Optional) Delete <path-to-game>\remonster.exe.
  13. (Optional) Delete the DoubleFine Explorer files.
