Issues fixed

Could not initialize Direct3D

There is an issue launching the game where the user will be presented with an error message displaying "Could not initialize Direct3D. Please make sure the latest DirectX End-User Runtime is installed". There is a possible fix detailed below but some users are reporting the issue persisting even after installing the latest version of DirectX 9.[5][6]

Update DirectX[citation needed]
  1. Download the latest version of DirectX 9 available here.
  2. Run the application and go through the installation process.

Users cannot connect to a hosted server

Because the server executable Server.exe is blocked by default users will not be able to connect to the server.[7]
Unblock the server executable from the Windows Firewall[7][8]

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1128000/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (1128000) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
