Settings screenshots

When a game's settings only fill a small area of the screen (as with Valve's games) I'd recommend cropping the screenshot to the box edges or whatever to maximise thumbnail readability.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

Well, that's going to take a while to fix. Will do.

Hi,

The edit you made to the references template today had broken, for nearly 3 hours, almost every page on the wiki. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you to consult such changes on the forums in the future, or at least check if everything still works after the change. In this particular case, every page had a big red text warning about the template references being a loop, as it was calling itself.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

Crap, I didn't even mean to edit it. I was trying to change every page with the old "= References = " to the new one and must have clicked on that page by accident. I'm really sorry.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

It's ok. Thanks for migrating all the pages to the new template, it's much cleaner for all in general. Also, thanks for taking care of the sample article for me, I was quite overwhelmed at the time.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Hey, I noticed you copied the content of some pages to a new name, instead of moving them ("the arrow on the right > move", just in case). Could you use the move feature of Mediawiki in the future, as to preserve the page history? Thanks!

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

I've researched this and I believe I either am blind and can't find it, or I need moderator capabilities to do it. Can you explain where exactly the move button is?

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

There's a dropdown menu next to the search bar. Under it, you should see Move, Watch and Refresh. Alternatively, the MediaWiki keyboard shortcut for Move is Alt+Shift+M.

More and More people are looking into CitiesXL on r/simcity

Thanks for fixing up the page a bit for me, here is the forum post

http://forums.pcgamingwiki.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=200

it has a few more links in it, this page will be linked on /r/simcity a lot, I will make it worth your while

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

No problem. If you can find information on the games please post it in their respective discussions page. e.g. if you find a fix for an issue in Cities XL 2011, post it to the discussion page for Cities XL 2011. I'll be sure to add it to the page as soon as I can. Please link to the original forum post as well!

Do you own any of the games? If so can you fill out the video settings/input settings? It's just true/false instead of unknown.

Hey! Just wanted to note, that game data is meant for save files/configs. The install directory is of little relevance, even the steam one, since you can move that or install to a different partition, instead the actual place the save games and config files are stored is of some interest. If that happens to be in the installation directory, replace it with <path-to-game> or something similar, as you can choose the install directory in many cases. Thanks!

Netko (talkcontribs)

That would be me (I'm guessing Torchlight). Technically, a game can be installed anywhere, but my intention was to put the location set by default for those who don't really care. And if the saves files are in the installation directory, my opinion is that the full default location should be put because it would be more useful than shortcuts.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Well, it seems to be a bit of both of you. ;)

However, what you did was make a separate table for the installation directory (and another important thing to remember is that Steam by no means is the only way to install it), which is largely irrelevant in general, but still fine as it doesn't make it seem like the save games are stored there. If there's only one table, it should be assumed that it is also for save game data/config files. I corrected a few of those today (mostly using random references found online), but it'd be generally best to leave it empty unless that's where it actually is stored.

Alternatively, if it is under the game installation directory, just put {{ii}} underneath it noting what the default is - seems like the best of both worlds.

Netko (talkcontribs)

I'll definitely take your advice into account.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

That was definitely a mistake on my part. I think the install directory is relevant because most users will install it to the default location, especially those who are tech illiterate and would actually need help.

I'll work on improving the save game locations I made.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Thanks. Btw., when noting the Steam path for userdata on Linux, use ~/.steam/steam/ as a start, as that symlink always points to the correct installation place of Steam, regardless of where the user moved the whole directory.

Superuser (talkcontribs)

Hi, I'm a Red Eclipse contributor (mainly testing, too stupid to program!) and I can assure you that you don't need to use the command line to change your aspect ratio. :)

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

Like I said on reddit, thanks for your contribution!

The WSGF page for Red Eclipse says it requires command line, perhaps it's outdated. If you believe the game does not in fact require command line feel free to change it back to true.

If you have it downloaded on your computer can you include images of the settings as well? It'd be appreciated, a template is available on the sample article page.

Once again, thank you.

Superuser (talkcontribs)

Oh sure, the settings are split across several screens actually. You should try it too! It comes at the amazing price of... zero dollars for a whole lot of fraggin' fun!

I like editing wikis in general and have over 1000 edits on Wikipaedia. I wonder, is there an 'exemplary' article I can copy ideas from on this wiki?

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

Here's a short list of AAA titles we tried to cover exceptionally well on release day, they're probably the best you can find.

Does the game work well on low-end hardware? My computer has pretty bad specs right now so I'm limited to Source engine games and older games.

Superuser (talkcontribs)

Haha, amazingly. It's always been a goal of the Cube 2 Engine (and RE too) to be very good on older hardware. Until 2 months ago my rig was an ancient shitty mid-range computer from 2002 (when XP first came out in my country) upgraded to a GeForce 6800 GT. It ran on a solid 30 FPS, and it was just about the only 3D game I could play that was made after 2003.

You can try /texreduce (reduces texture quality drastically - not a permanent setting) if your rig is that ancient. To type in commands by the way, you just press the forward slash key in-game (or in the menu, actually) and try out a command.

But honestly, if you can play Source Engine games, this should run on over 60 fps. By the way, a protip if you have an NVIDIA GPU and use the proprietary drivers, go to the NVIDIA X Server Settings, then OpenGL Settings and turn off 'Sync to VBlank' or you FPS will be capped to 60 FPS in all games.

Thanks for the links! I'll see what I can to to improve the PC Gaming Wiki. :)

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

Unfortunately I have an integrated Intel HD card, but it sounds like I'll be able to run it.

If you can find a list of all the console commands it would probably be a good idea to make a table for them.

Andytizer (talkcontribs)

Hi Nicereddy,

Thanks for all the work you've done on the wiki since you've started, I think you're beating us all for number of daily edits :).

If you need anything let me know!

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

If you can send over a few thousand dollars so I can get a decent computer, that'd be great :P

Veczar (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the changes you made to simcity 2013 bug list.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

No problem! If you ever have problems with formatting feel free to either post here and ask or check Wikipedia's Cheat Sheet or the full markup list. They usually have the same "code" as us.

Feel free to post here!
